Emergency Veterinarian
Tempus Veterinary Recruitment
Introduction This AAHA accredited, privately owned emergency and specialty hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado is hiring for an Overnight Emergency Veterinarian to join its growing team. Founded in 2022, the hospital has quickly established itself as a state-of-the-art facility focused on delivering high-quality emergency and specialty care within a collaborative and supportive culture. With in-house specialists in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Surgery, this is an excellent opportunity for a veterinarian who enjoys emergency medicine and wants direct access to specialist support while working within a team that genuinely prioritizes employee wellbeing, retention, and professional growth. Role Description and Responsibilities The Overnight Emergency Veterinarian will manage a high-volume and varied emergency caseload, handling patient triage, stabilization, diagnostics, treatment, and case management. Responsibilities include performing emergency medical and surgical procedures, collaborating directly with in-house specialists to ensure continuity of care, and communicating clearly and compassionately with clients during stressful situations. The role also involves working closely alongside and mentoring a highly skilled technician and support team. Overnight shifts run from 8pm to 8am, typically three nights per week, with flexible scheduling and the ability to choose preferred days, allowing for large blocks of consecutive time off and a strong work life balance. The hospital is seeking a veterinarian who thrives in a fast-paced environment and values collaboration, high-quality medicine, and positive team culture. Practice Details The hospital operates 24/7 and is equipped with advanced technology and facilities designed to support high-level emergency and specialty medicine. Equipment includes a newly installed in-house 64-slice CT scanner, C-arm fluoroscopy, ultrasound, endoscopy, digital radiography, advanced anesthetic monitoring equipment, and a complete in-house laboratory for rapid diagnostics. The facility also features a fully equipped and staffed ICU, brand-new Casco kennels, and oxygen kennels. The practice emphasizes progressive medicine, professional communication, and collaboration between departments, while offering veterinarians the opportunity to influence the future direction and continued growth of the hospital. The independently owned structure allows the team to prioritize medicine, culture, and patient care over corporate metrics. Each doctor also receives an annual charitable allowance of $3,000 to assist clients with discounts or invoice adjustments when needed, reflecting the hospital's strong commitment to both patient care and community support. Team The hospital currently has six full-time Emergency Veterinarians alongside four specialists across Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Surgery. Overnight doctors are supported by three technicians, an assistant, and dedicated laboratory staff, creating a highly supported clinical environment. The hospital has also introduced floor manager positions to provide additional support, training, workflow coordination, and mentorship for both technicians and doctors. The culture is highly collaborative and relationship-focused, with a strong emphasis on retention, mutual respect, professional growth, and maintaining a workplace where people genuinely care about one another.
