Human Resources Coordinator (Support Services)

Position Summary

Works under the direction of HR Manager as section supervisor coordinating specific Human Resources functions such as selection procedures employee grievance handling employee separations payroll preparation employee leave etc.

Pay Grade: 51

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Minimum Qualifications

• Four (4) years of experience working in an employment administrative or payroll capacity or coordinating special projects in a human resource environment; AND
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, management, human resources, or related; OR
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
• PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
  
  

Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinates and supervises daily activities of assigned personnel to include assigning, directing and reviewing work to assure accuracy, efficiency, and productive work effort. interviewing and recommending selections, promotions, status changes, disciplinary actions and terminations; complete performance evaluations for position(s).
• Processes payroll; oversees and resolves payroll issues, complaints and concerns, and researching facts and legal issues.
• Processes internal bid and non-bid job postings based on union guidelines, if applicable.
• Coordinates departmental new hire recruitment, applicant tracking, background check, physicals, motor vehicle reports, specialized license verification/renewals; conducts interviews and assist with departmental on-boarding procedures.
• Prepares reports of findings through observation, analysis, interviews, investigation, etc., including justifications and recommendations for compliance.
• Monitors/tracks sick leave and make initial recommendations for FMLA/ADA coverage; serves as liaison between employees and Shelby County Administrative Services/HR; serves as OJI Coordinator for department.
• Coordinates programs and projects for internal annual requirements.
• Reviews, investigates, and prepares reports related to vacancies, attendance and absence management, and risk management issues
• Reviews utilization of resources, identifies, and recommends solutions to improve operating performance.
• Performs other related duties as required or directed.

• Extensive knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methodology of Shelby County programs and practices.
• Practical knowledge and skills in interpreting, explaining, developing, and applying procedures.
• Substantial skills in applying analytical and problem-solving methods.
• Thorough knowledge and skills to analyze facts, identify problems, make conclusions, and recommend or take appropriate action.
• Thorough knowledge of organization; financial (including budgeting, accounting, and auditing), purchasing and personnel management techniques.
• Ability to supervise and coordinate support personnel.
• Demonstrate strong skills within Microsoft Office to prepare documents and track data.
• Ability to succeed with a collaborative workforce in a team environment.
• Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.

Special Requirements

• Must have a valid Tennessee Driver’s License or secure one by date of employment.
• Must have access to an operable automobile and meet County requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
• Must be able to travel to other Shelby County Government site locations as required.
