Job Description:The OpportunityThe Department of Nursing in the Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences (MCNHS) at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor beginning September 1, 2027.This position offers the opportunity to join a diverse community of scholars whose research is advances health equity across local and global settings. We seek an accomplished investigator with an established, externally funded program of research who will sustain and extend that work at UMass Boston, provide scholarly leadership within the Department, and mentor doctoral students and early-career faculty. We welcome applicants whose scholarship aligns with or expands our strengths in areas such as, aging and gerontology, maternal and child health, community-engaged research, and clinically focused science, including cardiovascular health, diabetes, and oncology.What You Will DoThe successful candidate will:Sustain and expand an externally funded program of research as principal investigator,Teach and mentor student, including chairing and serving on dissertation committeesMentor early-career faculty in research development, grant proposal preparation, and scholarly productivityProvide leadership and service to the Department, College, University, and professionBuild and sustain research collaborations across the University and with our community partnersWhat You Will BringRequiredAn earned research doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in nursing or a related fieldEligibility for RN licensure in MassachusettsA record of research, teaching, and service that merits appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure at the University of Massachusetts BostonCurrent extramural funding as principal investigator that can be transferred to or sustained at UMass Boston, or a clearly articulated plan to secure such funding upon arrivalDemonstrated experience mentoring doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and/or early-career facultyTeaching experience in higher educationAppointment at the rank of Professor additionally requires a national or international reputation in the candidate’s area of science and a sustained history of continuous, competitive extramural funding as principal investigator. Faculty appointed at senior rank receive a competitive start-up package, and the College’s pre- and post-award research administration team supports the transfer and ongoing management of existing extramural awards.Our faculty collaborate with major academic and medical institutions in and around Boston, including the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, UMass Chan Medical School, Boston Children’s Hospital, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, as well as with community, public, and private health care agencies across the region. The National Cancer Institute funds the University of Massachusetts Boston–Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center partnership; this longstanding collaboration has enabled faculty at both institutions to strengthen and extend partnerships for research on health disparities, PhD training, and community outreach.Our ProgramsThe BS, MS, and DNP nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The MS and DNP programs prepare Family Nurse Practitioners and Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioners. The PhD program focuses on health equity, broadly defined.Across all programs, our teaching addresses health across the life course among diverse populations, with a sustained focus on improving health equity for populations at risk for health care disparities.
