The Boulder Camera is seeking a reporter to cover the robust arts and entertainment beat for Boulder County — including serving as the lead reporter for the Sundance Film Festival when it comes to Boulder in January. We're looking for a journalist who excels in finding the story behind the event. You'll cover the people, places, and trends shaping Boulder County's cultural landscape, from the newest restaurants to the city's robust arts scene.

This reporter will also play a leading role in coverage of Sundance, one of the biggest cultural events to come to the county, debuting in Boulder in January. That means reporting on films, filmmakers, festival happenings, and the local impact of Sundance, as well as pursuing the bigger stories and personalities that come with the festival. Your work will appear in the Boulder Daily Camera, Longmont Times-Call, and, when appropriate, Prairie Mountain Media's other Colorado publications and digital platforms. If you're a reporter who is curious, plugged in, collaborative, and eager to make a mark on a major local culture beat, we want to hear from you.

Although this is a remote position, candidates must reside in the greater Boulder/Longmont, CO area.

What You Will Do:

• Understand audience needs and utilize internal metrics to create content optimized for what readers are seeking
• Develop and showcase a unique, strong voice that connects with readers
• Utilize a strong news sense to curate sources and build relationships to break news and generate authoritative coverage of Boulder's arts and entertainment scene
• Write rich, enterprising features through deep reporting and access that take readers beyond superficial storylines
• Apply a sharp, analytical mind to evaluate situations and go off the beaten track, if need be, to produce stories that stand out from the crowd
• Work on a number of projects at the same time, balancing long-term projects with the need to deliver quick-turn news stories on a regular basis
• Seek out daily stories while chipping away at bigger enterprise stories

What You Will Bring:

• Thorough knowledge of the journalistic process
• Basic photography skills
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
• At least two years of relevant experience at a media company
• Prior experience covering arts and entertainment preferred
• Be well-versed in AP style and have strong interviewing skills

Benefits and Compensation:

The hourly range is $19.00 - $20.00 + cell phone stipend. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility).
