Job Title: Fabrication / Machine Operator

Job Description

This role supports the production of custom metal, aluminum, and decal identification products by operating fabrication equipment, performing kitting and shipping tasks, and conducting visual and physical inspections. You will set up and run manual and CNC machinery, verify product dimensions, and help ensure accurate, on-time shipments in a clean, temperature-controlled warehouse environment. The position offers the opportunity to cross-train across multiple departments and develop a broad range of manufacturing skills.

Responsibilities

• Set up fabrication and production machines according to work instructions, work orders, blueprints, shop packets, or other released documentation.
• Adjust machine parameters to maintain dimensional compliance and product quality in accordance with specifications and drawings.
• Use calipers, dies, hand tools, and other tooling to perform accurate setups and verify measurements.
• Perform tear-down of machine setups and store tools, fixtures, dies, and related equipment in an organized and proper manner.
• Verify dimensions and quality of products using blueprints and measuring tools to ensure they meet required standards.
• Maintain good housekeeping by keeping tools, materials, and equipment clean, organized, and in their proper places.
• Perform basic troubleshooting of equipment, tooling, and processes or procedures to address minor issues and maintain productivity.
• Use blueprints to understand part requirements, tolerances, and fabrication steps.
• Package finished products for shipment, ensuring proper protection and presentation of parts.
• Count and verify that the correct number of parts are placed in each box or shipment, paying close attention to detail.
• Use computers to organize and schedule DHL and UPS pickups and support shipping documentation as needed.
• Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors, and retain and apply instructions and training.
• Perform visual and physical inspection of products to ensure they meet quality and customer requirements.
• Cross-train and work in multiple departments, including fabrication, assembly, production, packaging, inspection, and general warehouse operations.
• Operate various machines and equipment safely, including manual machines, CNC equipment, and laser systems after training.
• Follow production schedules, work orders, and ERP system updates to support efficient workflow.
• Support general production tasks as needed to meet daily and weekly output goals.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of production or manufacturing experience.
• Ability and willingness to cross-train in multiple departments such as fabrication, assembly, production, packaging, inspection, and warehouse operations.
• Machine operating experience, with the ability to translate those skills across different types of equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand tools, dies, and measuring instruments such as calipers.
• Ability to stand on your feet for up to 10 hours per day.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds safely and repeatedly as needed.
• Strong attendance and reliability, with a commitment to showing up consistently and on time.
• Clear and effective communication skills and strong information retention.
• Willingness to learn new processes and equipment and adapt to different tasks.
• Basic familiarity with computers to organize carrier pickups and interact with ERP or similar systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in general labor, manufacturing, or general production environments.
• Experience in assembly, production, packaging, inspection, or warehouse operations.
• Experience as a machine operator or in machine operation in a manufacturing setting.
• Comfort working with mechanical equipment and hand tools.
• Experience using or exposure to ERP systems.
• Prior experience working with blueprints and dimensional inspection.
• Experience in a temperature-controlled warehouse or similar environment.
• Openness to training on manual machines, CNC equipment, and laser machines.
• Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and openness to new methods rather than being fixed in a single way of working.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, temperature-controlled warehouse environment with approximately 40 employees working on-site. You will work around fabrication and production equipment, including manual machines, CNC machines, and laser systems, as well as standard hand tools, measuring tools, and computers connected to an ERP system. The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., providing a three-day weekend most weeks. Occasional overtime may be available and is typically voluntary. The dress code is casual and practical: closed-toe shoes or khakis are acceptable, shorts are allowed, and T-shirts and tank tops are permitted, as long as they are appropriate for a production environment. The setting emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and collaboration while providing a comfortable climate-controlled workspace.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of MOUNT VERNON, IA.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
