Safety Manager

The Safety Manager leads and directs all field safety operations for the Fermi Matador power plant construction site, driving an incident- and injury-free culture across all Fermi America personnel, contractors, and subcontractors. Reporting to the Director of Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE), the Safety Manager owns the day-to-day site safety program, setting standards, ensuring OSHA and regulatory compliance, and leading a team of field Safety Coordinators who provide direct oversight at the work face. This is a hands-on, field-based leadership role responsible for protecting the workforce while keeping a large, complex construction project on schedule.

Key responsibilities include:

• Program leadership. Own and continuously improve the site safety program, policies, and procedures; ensure alignment with OSHA, Fermi America standards, and owner/EPC requirements.
• Team management. Supervise, mentor, and schedule field Safety Coordinators; assign zone/contractor coverage and ensure consistent enforcement across the site.
• Field presence. Conduct and oversee daily site walks, inspections, and audits; verify hazard controls, permits (hot work, confined space, LOTO, excavation), and safe work practices at the work face.
• Incident management. Lead incident and near-miss investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and OSHA recordability determinations; ensure timely, accurate reporting.
• Contractor oversight. Hold contractors and subcontractors accountable to site safety expectations; review contractor safety plans, JSAs, and pre-task planning.
• Training & orientation. Ensure site safety orientation, toolbox talks, and required training are delivered and documented for the workforce.
• Emergency preparedness. Maintain and drill emergency response, evacuation, mustering, and medical response plans in coordination with site operations.
• Metrics & reporting. Track leading and lagging indicators; report safety performance, trends, and risks to the Director of Safety & Environmental and project leadership.
• Regulatory interface. Serve as a point of contact for OSHA and regulatory inspections; maintain required logs, records, and documentation.

Required qualifications include:

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience.
• 10+ years of construction safety experience, with 5+ years in a safety leadership/management role on large industrial, power, or heavy-civil projects.
• In-depth knowledge of OSHA 1926 (construction) standards and applicable federal and Texas state regulations.
• Demonstrated experience leading a team of safety professionals in a field environment.
• Strong incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and hold accountable at all levels, from craft to executive.

Certifications required include:

• OSHA 30-Hour Construction (required); OSHA 500/510 trainer credential preferred.
• CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) required.
• Current First Aid / CPR / AED certification.
• Valid driver's license.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Experience on combined-cycle power plant, EPC, or large greenfield industrial construction.
• Any additional BCSP credentials. Familiarity with digital safety/observation and workforce-tracking systems.

Physical & site requirements include:

• Full-time presence on an active construction site in the Texas Panhandle, including exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, and uneven terrain.
• Ability to walk the site for extended periods, climb ladders/stairs, and access elevated and confined areas.
• Ability to wear required PPE at all times in the field.
• Availability to support extended shifts, and occasional nights/weekends as project needs require.
