Location General Manager (Washington DC)

ARTECHOUSE is seeking a Location General Manager to serve as the senior operational leader for our Washington, DC location — providing executive leadership over daily operations, financial profit and loss (P&L), guest hospitality, and staff culture. This role owns the full day-to-day success of the venue — and is directly accountable for hitting visitation, private events, and F&B/bar revenue targets — from staffing and scheduling to facility and vendor relationships, operations budget oversight, and the seamless execution of programming, private events, and bar operations. The ideal candidate brings a background in theater, hospitality, or experiential/attraction operations, with a strong customer service foundation and the business acumen to grow a multi-revenue-stream venue.

WHO YOU ARE

You are a business-minded operator who thrives on ownership and is energized by hitting numbers, not just reporting on them. You've run the floor, managed an operations budget, P&L, and know how to convert great guest experience into real revenue growth — across ticketing, private events, and F&B/bar. You track your KPIs closely and know what levers to pull when visitation, event bookings, or bar sales are trending off plan. You bring a hands-on, coaching-oriented leadership style with an emphasis on team development and rigorous operational standards. You understand the rhythms of experiential, attraction, hospitality, or tourism-driven businesses — where visitor volume, seasonality, and event calendars all compete for the same space and staff.

This is a hands-on role. You walk the floor, interact with guests, coach your team, or meet event clients — not sitting behind a desk. You spot revenue and service gaps instantly by observing peak rushes, communication flow, and staff execution, and you're expected to work alongside your team and be available on weekends. You're a team player who works well cross-functionally, and you take real ownership over the growth and success of your venue.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee total location performance, providing executive leadership over daily operations, P&L, guest hospitality, and staff culture.
• Share full accountability with Senior Revenue & Marketing Director for the DC location's performance against visitation, private events, and F&B/bar revenue targets.
• Drive profitability by managing P&L, labor costs, inventory, budgeting, and financial reporting.
• Track and report on key performance indicators — visitation, conversion, private event bookings, average check, bar sales, and labor cost as a percentage of revenue — and adjust staffing and operations to hit targets.
• Recruit, train, and develop high-performing front-of-house and back-of-house teams, maintaining a culture rooted in genuine hospitality.
• Build a strong hospitality culture and promote brand values; model behavior that embodies ARTECHOUSE's core values.
• Manage a team of approximately 15-20 staff, maintaining a consistent floor presence across a few shifts per week including weekends.
• Own scheduling for the full team, balancing labor costs against visitor flow, event calendars, and programming needs.
• Ensure visitor experience and quality control standards are consistently excellent, driving repeat visitation and positive reviews.
• Drive private events and live programming as a revenue channel, owning execution from logistics and staffing to on-site client management, ensuring a high-quality B2B and B2C guest experience that supports rebooking and referrals.
• Own bar operations as a revenue center, including staffing, service standards, inventory, upsell strategy, and compliance with alcohol service regulations.
• Manage all facility and vendor relationships, including bidding out jobs to contractors and suppliers and following up on supplier issues.
• Own the landlord relationship for the DC location, including building issues and communication.
• Oversee facility maintenance, repairs, and building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing), ensuring building codes and permits remain current.
• Serve as the venue's safety officer, ensuring compliance with OSHA, ADA, and fire code requirements.
• Prepare and submit biweekly payroll, and own daily/weekly P&L and revenue performance, proactively adjusting labor, promotions, and operations to hit targets; reconcile cash, sales receipts, and reporting as needed.
• Work closely with the Senior Revenue & Marketing Director sales and promotions, the Technical Operations lead on exhibition needs, and ARTECHOUSE founders on strategic priorities and revenue goals.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS + EXPERIENCE

• Multi-year leadership background as a General Manager or Managing Partner in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
• Strong operational and financial command, including direct P&L ownership and labor forecasting.
• Attraction/hospitality/museum management experience a must.
• Experience driving revenue across multiple channels — ticketing/visitation, private events, and F&B/bar — including client-facing coordination for private events.
• Experience managing bar or F&B operations, including compliance, staffing, and revenue performance, a plus.
• Experience in facility management (maintenance, working with contractors & vendors, bidding out jobs).
• Hands-on, coaching-oriented leadership approach with an emphasis on team development and rigorous operational standards.
• Substantial decision-making relative to personnel, safety, fiscal, and facility/maintenance management.
• Comfort with KPI tracking and P&L ownership; able to read performance data and translate it into action.
• High attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills; strong time-management and multitasking ability.
• Excellent customer service skills and experience in dealing with guests in difficult situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Lift up to 40lbs, to load and transport bulk supplies, fixtures, etc.
• Regular crouching, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, etc. to facilitate various repairs and maintenance activities.
• Ability to stand, walk on hard floor surfaces for a prolonged period of time.
• Ability to qualify for and secure a DC ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) Manager License.

COMPENSATION

$85-120K base + bonus & revenue incentives

Commensurate with experience
