Camp Counselor

Job Purpose:As a Camp Counselor at Meadowlands Area YMCA, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, fun, and enriching environment for campers. You will be responsible for guiding and mentoring campers through various activities, fostering personal growth, teamwork, and a sense of community. Your leadership and enthusiasm will help shape memorable experiences for campers, ensuring they have a positive and impactful summer camp experience.Key Responsibilities:Supervise and engage with campers during daily activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.Plan and lead a variety of camp activities, including sports, arts and crafts, nature exploration, and team-building exercises.Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating respect, inclusivity, and good sportsmanship.Facilitate group discussions and encourage camper participation to promote learning and personal development.Assist in the setup and cleanup of camp facilities and equipment, maintaining a clean and organized environment.Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff members, addressing any concerns or issues promptly and professionally.Monitor camper behavior and implement strategies to address any conflicts or challenges, promoting a harmonious camp atmosphere.Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to continually improve skills and contribute to the overall success of the camp program.Uphold the values and mission of Meadowlands Area YMCA, ensuring a supportive and welcoming environment for all campers.Required Education:High school diploma or equivalent is required.Some college coursework in education, recreation, or a related field is preferred.Required Experience:At least 1 year of experience working with children in a camp, educational, or recreational setting.Previous experience in a leadership role, such as a team leader or assistant counselor, is preferred.Experience in planning and leading activities for groups of children.Required Skills and Abilities:Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with children, parents, and staff.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when necessary.Excellent organizational skills to plan and execute daily activities and schedules.Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve conflicts in a positive and effective manner.Ability to maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or willingness to obtain upon hiring.Enthusiasm, creativity, and a passion for working with children and fostering a positive camp experience. #J-18808-Ljbffr Ymca
