Senior Software Engineer

Job DescriptionAs a Senior Software Engineer at RBC, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering software solutions to integrate vendors into back office systems. This role emphasizes independence, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a focus on delivering high-quality results. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, proactively address technical challenges, and ensure the solutions are properly implemented from end-to-end so they meet the team’s strategic objectives by driving innovation and improving processes.If you like to learn about different business and operational processes and take back-end systems from where they are to a newer, better target state, this is the position for you.What will you do?Team Technical Leadership – Explore & conceptualize technical solutions for business problems, create technical stories, identify cross commits needed to bring from ideation to launch, enable other junior & senior developers by mentoring them towards building holistic solution and documenting systems for production support and development partners.Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including business stakeholders, product managers, vendors, and other engineers, to ensure seamless integration and delivery of solutions for different back-end processes.Strategic Contribution: Identify functional issues and risks and develop/recommend mitigation strategies. Drive innovation, improve processes, and deliver impactful results that align with the team’s strategic objectives.Proactive Problem Solving: Identify and address system needs and technical challenges, leveraging innovative approaches to deliver high-quality results.Software Development: Design, develop, and implement software solutions of moderate to high complexity, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical requirements.Time Management: Independently manage multiple projects and tasks, demonstrating strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines.Continuous Learning: Stay up to date with new frameworks, tools, and technologies, stepping out of your comfort zone to tackle diverse challenges.Decision-Making: Apply professional judgment and expertise to make informed decisions, balancing technical excellence with business priorities.What do you need to succeed? Must Have’sAt least 5+ years of professional experience as a software developer, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality solutions.Technical Proficiency:Strong knowledge of GitHub, including branching strategies, code reviews, and conflict resolution.Proficiency in relational databases and SQL.Proficient with distributed databases & in-memory caching (MemSQL).Proficiency with Java (Core, Springboot) object-oriented programming language.Hands-on experience with automated testing, including unit testing, integration testing, and end-to-end testing.Ability to research and document current technical state of systems end-to-end through talking with users and other tech teams as well as reading documentation.Independence & Ownership: Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks, driving them to completion with minimal supervision.Technology Decisioning & team coachingProblem-Solving Skills: Strong systems and process analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex technical challenges effectively.Utilize AI platforms to create innovative solutions quickly.Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and best practices for automated testing.Communication: Strong visual and verbal communication skillsNice-to-Have’s:Familiarity with tools like GitHub Copilot or Claude Code.Experience with advanced GitHub workflows, including Pull Requests, and Actions.Experience with frontend development ideally Typescript or JavaScriptExperience with project development process of baselining and managing changesExperience with financial/wealth management industryExperience with financial security reference dataA focus on reflecting on processes and adjusting behaviors to enhance team effectivenessWhat’s in it for you?We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper.
