Assistant Professor of Biochemistry The Department of Agricultural and Life Sciences welcomes applications for a 9‑month non‑tenure track faculty position in the biology program at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. Responsibilities Teach approximately 15 contact hours per semester for undergraduate courses (or 30 contact hours per academic year). Contribute to the program, department, university, and profession through service obligations, including student advising and committee service. Teach undergraduate biochemistry and introductory chemistry courses (e.g., general biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry). Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts. Evaluate and grade students’ coursework and papers. Collect and analyze data for program and university assessment. Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required documentation. Compile, administer, and grade examinations. Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions. Advise students on academic and career curricula. Develop and use multimedia course materials and other current technology, such as online courses. Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues. Assist the department chair with continual program development. Participate in unit meetings and other university‑wide activities/committees. Conduct research in the area of expertise and seek grant funding for projects. Other duties as outlined in the Faculty Handbook. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills. Previous successful work experience with culturally diverse populations is a plus. Ability to cope effectively with adversity and demonstrate leadership skills that promote collegiality and cooperation. Ability to use technology in instruction and student advising; experience in curriculum and institutional assessment is a plus. Minimum Qualifications Earned Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline. Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence in the undergraduate classroom. Evidence of potential for developing a research program in biology, or a multidisciplinary area that fully involves and engages undergraduate students. Preferred Qualifications Teaching experience in biology and introductory level chemistry courses. Ability to teach organic chemistry and biochemistry.
