Scope and Purpose We are seeking an Underwriter for our Health division. This position involves calling applicants who have applied for insurance to verify their health history. Previous experience in medical underwriting, pharmacy technician, or medical office staff is required to qualify. You will apply your knowledge of common medical conditions and medicines in conversations with applicants and provide coverage determinations. This position requires some phone work but no sales. This is a Houston‑based, in‑office position. Duties and Responsibilities Review applications for health and other eligibility criteria. Coordinate communication with applicants. Collaborate with agents regarding applications as it pertains to the underwriting process. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent (GED). At least 1 year of health underwriting experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of medical terminology. Excellent interpersonal and office skills. Willingness to help and learn. Health or life insurance knowledge is a plus. Experience working as a medical scribe, pharmacy technician, EMT, pre‑med student, or other health/medical related positions. Physical Demands Employees are regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, type, use a mouse, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
