Lead, Used Firearms Sales & Compliance

POSITION SUMMARY

The Team Lead operates a business within a business. The responsibilities include the daily operations of the used firearms business. This includes three phases: buying, selling, and firearms customer service. The position initiates all 4473 forms with customers and is responsible for conducting the final check of applicable company, state, and federal forms prior to a firearm being transferred to the customer. The Team Lead focuses on creating a fair‑trade environment and a customer‑satisfaction selling culture, thereby reaching monthly sales goals to maximize profit through buying, selling, and trading pre‑owned firearms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Evaluates and appraises used firearms, exhibiting knowledge of fair market values, professional negotiation skills, research, and a high degree of firearms identification knowledge. The Team Leader is in control of used firearm inventory and must obtain the highest margin based on negotiated acquisition. Initiates all 4473 forms with customers and is responsible for completing final checks of applicable company, state, and federal forms before a firearm is transferred to the customer. Maintains inventory through daily buying and cultivating leads for potential buying of gun collections outside of the store, along with awareness of local auctions, estate sales, and other avenues of supply. Complies with all Local, State, and Federal firearms regulations as an employee of an ATF FFL licensed dealer. Conducts monthly ATF compliance audits and company‑required audits. Merchandises used firearms and proactively arranges merchandise. Partners with Internet Specialist to recommend posting of firearms that will achieve the highest potential margin and sell quickly. Interacts and communicates with Regional Gun Library Managers and the corporate used firearm merchandising team. Trains and educates Outfitters on acquiring and disposing of used firearms, current sales trends, policy and procedure updates, negotiation skills, and resources to identify used firearm values. Participates in ongoing training including firearms and shooting product information, diverse shooting discipline awareness, systems training, compliance‑related training, and selling skills/techniques. Provides highest quality customer service on the sales floor and assists with customer phone calls, building relationships, answering questions about firearms, quoting prices for their firearms or retail prices, and handling customer issues by using good judgment and logic in problem solving. All other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or equivalent experience. Experience: 2–4 years in a related role.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY

Must be 21 years of age. Must safely handle firearms. Knowledge of purchasing firearms by working in the industry or collecting firearms. Good understanding of retail and computer use. Background in current firearms models. Able to appraise and determine the marketable value of used firearms. Strong work ethic and ability to multitask.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Local travel to purchase used firearms outside the store.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Constantly stand and/or walk during shift. Constantly communicate with others to exchange information. Constantly repeat motions that may include wrist, hand, and/or finger actions. Constantly assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned work. Light work including lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds; occasionally up to 100 pounds using a team lift as needed. Occasionally ascend or descend ladders, stairs, step stools, etc. Occasionally operate machinery and/or power tools. Occasionally work in noisy environments.

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT

Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments, often making recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.
