Part-Time Kinesiology Instructor (Pool)

Definition - PART-TIME, ASSOCIATEFACULTYPOOL– Kinesiology Instructor Applications for Part-Time, Associate Faculty pools are continually accepted (unless otherwise specified) by the District and will be added to the application pool for review by hiring authorities on an as-needed basis. Should you be invited for an interview, you will be contacted by a District representative. The Health and Human Development Division is seeking qualified instructors to teach Principles of Strength Training and Conditioning, Practical Experience in Personal Training, Functional Fitness, Core Training, and Weight Training. Candidates must be willing to teach in the late afternoon and evening hours.

Assignment - This position is a part-time position as an Associate Instructor. The teaching assignment may require teaching lecture-discussion courses during day, evening or on Saturday and/or in an on-line/distance education format. The assignments are as needed, during Spring, Summer, and/or Fall semesters. This position is represented by the West Valley-Mission Federation of Teachers (WVMFT), AFT6554. Work location: West Valley College, Saratoga, CA

Salary and Benefits - Salary is based on a percentage of workload, up to a maximum of 67% of a full-time load. Salary is prorated based on an initial hiring salary range of $38,464 – $55,582 per semester; and is based on academic achievement, teaching and related experience.

Minimum Qualifications - 1. Education – Possess any one of the following: Master's degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education; OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND master's degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy; OR The equivalent of the above. AND 2. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with persons of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

Desired Qualifications - Current Certification through one or more of the following organizations: NSCA, NASM, or USAW, & CPR/AED Certified. Minimum of 1 year working in a collegiate strength and conditioning program. Experience with teaching all forms of resistance training and condition. Experience designing strength programs for student athletes. Knowledge and/or certification in functional training (FMS, Kettle Bells, or TRX). Knowledge in speed improvement and mechanics, flexibility and mobility training, energy system specific running, skill-specific training, testing and evaluation protocols, rehabilitation procedures with various injuries, and nutrition science. Basic computer skill required; Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, etc. Experience managing personal fitness trainers and strength and conditioning staff.
