Job Description:\n\nSEMI-TRUCK TIRE TECHNICIANBengal Transportation ServicesLocation: Geismar, LouisianaDepartment: MaintenanceReports To: Service ManagerEmployment Type: Full-TimePay: $24.00–$28.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualificationsJOIN THE BENGAL TEAMBengal Transportation Services is looking for an experienced, dependable, and safety-minded Semi-Truck Tire Technician to join our Maintenance team in Geismar, Louisiana.This is not a passenger-vehicle tire position.We need someone who understands commercial truck tires and knows their way around Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, semi-trailers, heavy-haul equipment, forklifts, and other commercial equipment.The ideal candidate can do more than simply change a tire. We are looking for someone who can inspect it, diagnose the problem, determine why it failed, make the proper repair or replacement, document the work, and help put the equipment safely back into service.Bengal operates in a demanding transportation and heavy-equipment environment where equipment reliability matters. Our drivers, customers, field crews, and operations team depend on Maintenance to keep our fleet moving.If you take pride in your work, know commercial truck tires, understand the importance of doing the job right the first time, and believe safety comes before shortcuts, we want to talk to you.POSITION SUMMARYThe Semi-Truck Tire Technician is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, diagnosing, servicing, repairing, mounting, dismounting, and replacing tires and wheel assemblies on Bengal's commercial fleet and equipment.Equipment may include:Peterbilt tractorsKenworth tractorsFreightliner tractorsSemi-trailersHeavy-haul trailersFlatbed trailersLowboys/RGN trailersSpecialized trailersForkliftsService vehiclesOther commercial and heavy equipmentWork may be performed in the maintenance shop, equipment yard, jobsite, customer location, roadside, or other field environment depending on operational needs.The Tire Technician will also perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance, troubleshoot tire-related problems, maintain accurate service records, and identify conditions that could result in premature tire failure, equipment downtime, or an unsafe operating condition.The Semi-Truck Tire Technician reports directly to the Service Manager.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSTire Service, Maintenance & RepairPerform routine maintenance and tire service on commercial trucks, trailers, forklifts, and other heavy equipment.Mount and dismount commercial truck and trailer tires.Remove and install commercial tire and wheel assemblies.Diagnose, service, and repair commercial and heavy-equipment tires.Troubleshoot tire problems and determine the appropriate corrective action.Repair serviceable tires using approved commercial tire repair procedures.Replace tires that are damaged, excessively worn, defective, or otherwise unsafe for continued service.Locate and repair air leaks and tire punctures when repairable.Replace valve stems, valve cores, and other serviceable tire components as required.Check and adjust tire inflation pressures.Inspect and service dual-wheel assemblies.Rotate or reposition tires when appropriate to maximize tire life and performance.Properly match tires in dual-wheel applications.Verify correct tire size, application, load rating, and compatibility before installation.Install wheel assemblies and properly torque wheel fasteners according to applicable manufacturer specifications and company procedures.Inspection & TroubleshootingThe successful candidate must be able to recognize a problem-not just replace the affected tire.Responsibilities include:Inspect tires to ensure they are in safe and proper operating condition.Inspect tires for:CutsPuncturesCrackingBulgesSidewall damageUneven or irregular wearExposed cordsTread separationImpact damageAir leaksImproper inflationExcessive tread wearOther abnormal or unsafe conditionsInspect wheels, rims, valve stems, lug hardware, and related components for damage, wear, corrosion, cracking, or other unsafe conditions.Troubleshoot recurring tire failures and air-loss conditions.Determine whether a tire can safely be repaired or must be removed from service.Identify abnormal tire wear patterns.Recognize when irregular tire wear may indicate another issue, including possible:Alignment concernsSuspension problemsWheel-end issuesBrake-related concernsImproper inflationOverloadingMechanical problemsNotify the Service Manager or appropriate mechanic when an inspection indicates a problem beyond normal tire service.Assist in determining the root cause of premature or repeated tire failures.Inspect completed work before equipment is returned to service.Preventive MaintenanceAt Bengal, preventive maintenance is a critical part of keeping our equipment reliable and reducing unnecessary downtime.The Semi-Truck Tire Technician will:Perform scheduled and routine tire inspections.Monitor tread depth and overall tire condition.Check tire pressures and identify inflation concerns.Identify developing tire problems before they cause a breakdown.Identify tires approaching replacement criteria.Help maximize tire life through proper inflation, rotation, inspection, and maintenance.Identify unsafe tire or wheel conditions and immediately communicate those concerns.Support Bengal's preventive maintenance program and fleet-readiness goals.Help ensure equipment is ready when operations and our customers need it.Shop, Yard, Jobsite & Field ServiceThis position is not limited to working inside the maintenance shop.The Tire Technician may perform work at:Bengal maintenance facilitiesEquipment yardsIndustrial facilitiesCustomer locationsJobsitesConstruction sitesStaging areasRoadside locationsOther field locationsThe employee may be required to:Respond to tire-related equipment calls.Travel to equipment requiring tire service.Diagnose tire issues in the field.Perform on-site tire repairs and replacements.Work from a service truck when assigned.Safely secure the work area before beginning tire service.Safely position, chock, raise, and support equipment.Work efficiently to minimize unnecessary equipment downtime.Maintain awareness of surrounding traffic, employees, vehicles, equipment, and jobsite hazards.Equipment Operation & TestingThe Semi-Truck Tire Technician must be able to safely use commercial tire-service tools and equipment, which may include:Commercial tire-changing equipmentTire mounting and demounting equipmentBead-breaking equipmentTire cages and restraining devicesTire inflation equipmentClip-on air chucksPressure gaugesPneumatic toolsImpact wrenchesTorque wrenchesHydraulic jacksJack standsWheel chocksHand toolsLifting and material-handling equipmentThe employee may also:Operate trucks or equipment as necessary for diagnosis and repair when properly trained, licensed, qualified, and authorized.Road-test or test-drive equipment when necessary to diagnose a concern or verify a completed repair.Verify proper operation following service before returning equipment to operation.Service Records & DocumentationGood maintenance requires good records.The Semi-Truck Tire Technician is responsible for maintaining accurate records of work performed on Bengal equipment.Duties include:Maintain service logs and records of completed work.Document tire inspections, repairs, replacements, and rotations.Record applicable unit and equipment information.Document tire position when required.Document the reason a tire was repaired, replaced, or removed from service.Record mileage, hours, or other required information when applicable.Enter completed work into Bengal's applicable maintenance tracking system.Communicate additional deficiencies discovered during tire service.Document incomplete repairs or equipment requiring additional maintenance.Notify the Service Manager of unsafe equipment or conditions.Maintain accurate and timely work records.Tire Inventory & Work AreaAssist with receiving and organizing new tires and wheels.Move and store commercial truck tires safely.Help maintain an organized tire inventory.Identify and separate tires intended for:Continued serviceRepairRecappingWarranty evaluationScrap/disposalAssist in monitoring tire usage and replacement needs.Properly stage damaged or unserviceable tires.Maintain tire equipment, tools, and the work area in clean and serviceable condition.Keep the shop and tire-service areas organized.Take care of Bengal tools and equipment.Report damaged tools or equipment to supervision.SAFETY pneumatic tools, and potentially dangerous tire and wheel assemblies.The Semi-Truck Tire Technician must perform every task with safety as the first priority.Employees in this position are expected to:Follow all Bengal safety policies and procedures.Follow applicable OSHA, manufacturer, and industry-standard procedures for commercial tire and rim-wheel service.Use proper procedures when mounting, demounting, inflating, and servicing commercial tires.Properly inspect tires, wheels, rims, and components before assembly.Verify that tire and wheel components are compatible before installation.Never install damaged, cracked, bent, severely corroded, incompatible, or otherwise unsafe wheel components.Use applicable tire cages, restraining devices, barriers, remote inflation equipment, and other required safeguards.Maintain a safe position outside the potential trajectory of a tire and wheel assembly during inflation.Properly chock, jack, secure, and support vehicles and equipment before beginning work.Use only appropriate and properly maintained tools and equipment.Wear all required personal protective equipment.Maintain situational awareness around moving trucks, trailers, forklifts, heavy equipment, and other shop or jobsite activity.Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, incidents, or hazards.Stop and seek direction when a job cannot be performed safely.We do not sacrifice safety to save time.Getting the equipment back on the road matters.Getting our people home safely matters more.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSPrevious experience in tire service, commercial truck maintenance, heavy equipment, fleet maintenance, or a related hands-on mechanical environment.Working knowledge of tire-service tools and equipment.Strong mechanical aptitude.Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose tire-related problems.Ability to recognize damaged, defective, or unsafe tires and wheel components.Understanding of proper tire inflation and commercial tire applications.Ability to safely operate hand, pneumatic, and power tools.Ability to use jacks and lifting equipment safely.Ability to read and follow manufacturer specifications and service procedures.Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.Ability to accurately complete service and maintenance records.Strong attention to detail.Strong safety awareness.Dependable attendance and punctuality.Ability to work independently with limited supervision.Ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team.Ability to work in shop, yard, jobsite, and field environments.Willingness to work overtime or respond to operational needs when required.Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record when operation of company vehicles is required.Ability to successfully complete Bengal's applicable pre-employment requirements.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS1+ years of commercial truck tire experience preferred.Previous experience servicing Class 8 commercial trucks.Experience working on Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, or similar equipment.Experience mounting and dismounting common commercial truck tires, including 22.5-inch tire and wheel assemblies.Experience servicing semi-trucks and tractor-trailer combinations.Experience servicing dual-wheel assemblies.Heavy-haul or specialized transportation fleet experience.Experience servicing commercial trailers.Forklift or heavy-equipment tire experience.Fleet-maintenance experience.Mobile commercial tire-service experience.Roadside tire-service experience.Familiarity with commercial tire wear patterns and failure analysis.Tire Industry Association (TIA) Commercial Tire Service training or similar industry training is a plus.CDL Class A or Class B is a plus when applicable to assigned equipment or duties.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThis is a physically demanding, hands-on position.The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, otherwise changing environmental conditions.Work around grease, dirt, vehicle exhaust, compressed air, and typical fleet-maintenance hazards.Wear required PPE throughout assigned work.WORK SCHEDULEThis is a full-time position.Because Bengal supports an active transportation and heavy-equipment operation, flexibility may occasionally be required based on equipment and operational
