Director, Legal - Litigation and Employment (San Antonio)

Job DescriptionThe Rackspace Technology Legal Department is seeking a Director, Legal – Litigation and Employment to join our team, based in San Antonio, TX. This role owns litigation and employment matters across the US and internationally, manages a small team, and coordinates with outside counsel across core and non-core geographies. We're looking for a candidate with strong commercial litigation and employment experience from a reputable private practice or in-house environment, ideally with a technology industry background.Key ResponsibilitiesManaging all aspects of commercial and employment litigation matters in the US and internationally, including case strategy, fact-finding and analysis, and retaining and managing outside counselInvestigating and responding to claims, demand letters, administrative complaints, and other related inquiriesOverseeing high value collection matters, directing recovery strategy, related negotiation and arbitration proceedings with outside counsel across multiple jurisdictionsAdvising on bankruptcy related mattersIdentifying and assessing legal risks and mitigation measures and advising business and leadership on sameDeveloping, implementing, and managing employment law compliance initiatives as directed by business leadershipLeading on US and international employment-related projects, including assuming ownership of APAC and international employment matters currently supported on a temporary basis by the International Sales legal team, transitioning to this role upon hireManaging employment litigation and other contentious matters with the support of outside counselLeading and overseeing internal workplace investigations, including allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other misconductProviding legal support for reductions in force, including planning, risk assessment, and documentationDrafting and maintaining employee handbooks, HR policies, and related training programs, including anti-harassment and manager trainingDrafting and negotiating restrictive covenant agreements and separation/severance agreementsAdvising on wage and hour compliance and worker classification issuesOwning the company's legal hold process and document retention policy for litigation and employment mattersCoordinating with risk management/insurance on litigation matters, including leveraging applicable coverageAdvising on the use of contractors across multiple jurisdictionsAssisting with global mobility mattersAdvising on day-to-day employment law and employee relations mattersDirecting development of employment law guidance and creation of jurisdiction-specific templates and policies to support Company’s global expansion initiativesHandling a range of cross-border employment law issuesWorking with the compensation and benefits team, including on sales compensation and commission issuesInstructing and managing outside counsel, including coordination with regional panel counsel (e.g., EMEA employment panel) in non-core geographiesManaging law enforcement requests as well as criminal and civil subpoenasHiring, managing, and developing an Associate Counsel supporting litigation and employment mattersDirectly managing the Sr. Paralegal and Legal Administrator II roles supporting this teamOperating autonomously with little supervision while functioning as a strong team player across the broader Legal organizationQualificationsWe are looking for someone flexible and motivated to deliver outcomes, with the ability to adapt and be proactive in an ever-changing environment. Ideally you would have:JDActive U.S. Bar Admission7+ years of experienceMultiple years of experience at a major law firm and/or in-house legal department of an internationally operating, complex corporationDemonstrated experience managing and developing junior legal talentWorking knowledge of instructing and coordinating outside counsel across jurisdictions, including non-core geographies supported by panel counselHighly effective communicator, written and oralTrue team player, able to work cross-functionally in a complex organization and available to cover other team members as neededResults-driven, with proven experience leading strategic projects and working independentlyExcellent written and spoken English skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several geographic markets. The compensation range for this position ranges from $185,709.00/year in our lowest geographic market up to 272,373.20 USD/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
