Research coordinator

Position Overview The Grants Specialist serves as the primary institutional representative for sponsored faculty projects, partnering closely with departmental staff to manage interactions with external sponsors and internal award teams. Reporting to a Team Manager, this experienced professional directs the entire proposal process to guarantee timely, compliant, and accurate submissions. This role champions a collaborative model of stewardship and, upon successful completion of required certifications, provides the opportunity to obtain delegated signature authority and advance to a senior administrative level. Key Responsibilities Oversee and direct the full grant proposal process, including detailed budget development, strategic advising, and the interpretation of complex sponsor requirements. Manage pre-award proposal initiatives, post-award fund administration, and closeout activities for federal, state, local, and private sponsors. Develop and oversee complex research proposals and awards that involve task budgets, option years, multiple investigators, and multiple sub-awards or subcontracts. Analyze research funding trends, forecast financial needs, and manage diverse research portfolios. Review all proposals to ensure strict compliance with institutional pre-award guidelines, sponsor requirements, and federal regulations. Negotiate, administer, and monitor contract and grant awards throughout the life of the award, maintaining accurate compliance records. Complete and approve financial and grant transactions for signature by management or authorized institutional officials. Provide analytical support and targeted training, actively guiding and mentoring less experienced research administration staff. Qualifications & Scope Extensive background in Pre-Award Research Administration, Budget Development, and Proposal Submission. Demonstrated subject matter expertise with National Institutes of Health (NIH) applications and funding mechanisms. Ability to independently apply theoretical knowledge to practical, in-depth grant administration challenges. Broad analytical skills capable of resolving diverse issues and navigating highly complex compliance regulations.
