The role of a unit manager is to assist in the planning, organizing, development, and direction of the overall operation of the Nursing Services Department in accordance to the guidelines and regulations that govern the facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator and/or Director of Nursing to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. Other duties include adhering to facility policies, must be able to work "on call" or beyond normal working hours, collaborate with other departments, participate in coordination of resident services, help to ensure proper scheduling of nursing staff, create and maintain a positive environment for residents and staff, knowledge of requirements of charting and the ability to direct staff, and many more.
