Assistant Principal Position

Battle Creek Public Schools is seeking an exceptional, inspired, equity-driven Assistant Principal to collaborate with the Principal, teachers and staff in propelling Springfield Middle School into the next chapter of even greater academic excellence. We expect our educational leader to possess a deep knowledge of highly effective teaching and instruction, and to have demonstrated success in engaging and inspiring a school community to achieve high levels of student achievement. We seek self-reflective leaders who understand how race, class, ethnicity, income, disability, identity, health, trauma, and family environment impact our students, and believe in educational environments that are responsive to student needs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Instructional and Talent Leadership
  • Supervise and evaluate aspects of the middle school program as assigned by the Principal
  • Implement curriculum for students
  • Use data warehouse and multiple data sources to develop and implement a school improvement plan
  • Assist in coordinating Battle Creek Public School District's state assessment program
  • Supervise ancillary staff such as Bearcat Coaches and Student Success Specialist
  • Positive School and Community Culture
  • Create a culture of high expectations with a relentless focus on student growth and achievement
  • Maintain a safe and positive school environment in which students thrive, develop and grow
  • Collaborate with counselor and behavioral interventionist to create a safe and orderly learning environment
  • Maintain an appropriate level of consequences for students who choose not to comply with behavioral expectations; and to reward those students who comply with behavioral expectations
  • Administer student corrective action including suspensions, re-entry meetings and restorative conversations
  • Attend P.T.S.A meetings
  • Foster an environment of deep connection and collaboration with families and caregivers, building strong relationships and encouraging their direct engagement in their students' school experiences
  • Operational Leadership
  • Has responsibility for financial aspects of the school's operations in conjunction with the District's Business Office as assigned by the Principal
  • Use Skyward software to create a master for the school
  • Supervise after school and/or additional after school programs
  • Provide staff management, including: Evaluations On-board and support new teachers Monitor/supervise instructional coaches and teachers in the areas of Curriculum, Management, Relationship and Responsibility Provide co-teaching when necessary Manage the daily, building and long term guest teacher processes Co-design, assist and co-facilitate school staff meetings Manage the physical plant in conjunction with Facilities and Operations

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or Educational Administration required
  • Valid Michigan School Administrator Certificate required
  • Valid Michigan teaching certification required
  • 3+ years secondary teaching experience is required

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven ability to work successfully with a culturally diverse community, staff and student population is required
  • A belief that all children can achieve no matter their zip code
  • Deep understanding of the nuanced needs of low-income student populations, and trauma-informed teaching practices and restorative justice
  • Demonstration of successful use of data to improve student learning
  • Experience working in trauma-informed settings
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and cultivate positive relationships with staff, parents and community stakeholders
  • Demonstrated understanding of the ways to disrupt and transform systemic inequities
  • A willingness to go above and beyond to contribute to the success of a dynamic team

Salary: $89,608 - $96,072 Contract: 224 days (11 months)

SCHOOL SAFETY CLEARANCE: The successful candidate will be subject to a fingerprint and background check as a condition of employment. All fees required for this check (estimated $73.00) will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
