Fitness Club Director

The Club Director is the leader of the Nantucket Club and is accountable for its people, finances, facilities, membership and culture. This role oversees the entire club team, including the fitness center, group fitness and personal training, club front desk, and the Kids Club. The Director manages the club budget, drives membership growth and retention, and carries the administrative responsibilities that keep the team running smoothly, including onboarding, offboarding and payroll. Most importantly, the Director is in charge of the culture of the club and making sure membership and the resort guests enjoy their experience.

Core Responsibilities:

Club Leadership and Team Management

• Team Oversight:
• Lead, supervise and support the entire club team, including fitness attendants, club front desk staff, personal trainers, group fitness instructors, and Kids Club staff.
• Directly supervise the Club Manager and the Children’s Program Manager, and through them the full club and Kids Club teams.
• Build staff schedules that meet operating hours, safety coverage and labor targets.
• Conduct regular team meetings and pre-shift communication to keep staff informed and aligned.
• Hiring and Development:
• Partner with the General Manager and Human Resources to source, interview and hire club staff.
• Train new team members on club standards, safety procedures, service expectations, membership sales, and the use of RDP and Alice.

Budget and Financial Management

• Budget and Reporting:
• Develop, manage and report on the annual club operating budget in partnership with the General Manager and Accounting.
• Monitor revenue and expenses monthly, including membership dues, personal training, programming and retail, using RDP sales and revenue reporting.
• Manage labor cost against budget through effective scheduling and staffing decisions.

Gym and Facility Operations

• Facility Standards:
• Ensure the gym, studios, locker rooms and Kids Club areas are clean, safe, well stocked and presentable at all times.
• Oversee daily opening and closing procedures and facility walk-throughs.
• Maintain all fitness equipment through scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections and prompt repair or replacement.
• Submit, track and close out maintenance work orders and amenity requests in Alice.
• Coordinate with Engineering and Housekeeping on facility needs and capital requests, using Alice to communicate and document requests.

Kids Club

• Program Oversight:
• Oversee the Kids Club program, staffing, schedule and activities through the Children’s Program Manager.
• Ensure appropriate staff-to-child ratios, supervision standards, and secure check-in and check-out procedures are followed at all times.
• Ensure all staff working with children have completed required background checks, including CORI and SORI, before their first shift.
• Maintain documentation for registrations, parent and guardian authorizations, allergy and medical information, and incident reports.

Memberships, Sales and Marketing

• Membership Growth:
• Drive club membership sales, renewals and retention to meet or exceed monthly, seasonal and annual targets.
• Conduct tours of the Club facilities and clearly explain membership options, pricing and benefits.
• Maintain accurate records of membership sales, renewals, freezes, cancellations and member interactions in RDP.
• Recommend membership pricing, packages and promotions to the General Manager.
• Marketing and Outreach:
• Develop promotional materials and work with our marketing department on club campaigns.
• Create outreach to the community and build relationships with local residents and businesses.

Qualifications:

This position requires a highly organized, hands-on leader with strong communication, sales and people-management skills. As a front-facing representative of our high-end resort, the Director sets the standard for service, safety and professionalism and contributes to a positive experience for every guest.
