Hand Soldering Technician

PGS Worldwide is seeking a Hand Soldering Technician in Oldsmar, FL for a one-year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.

The Hand Soldering Technician will perform precision hand soldering, de-soldering, rework, and component-level repair on electronic and electromechanical assemblies. This role requires experience producing reliable solder connections that meet electronics manufacturing quality standards. The position also supports inspection, documentation, equipment upkeep, and collaboration with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams.

Required Skills

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2+ years of hands-on soldering experience in electronics, aerospace, or medical device manufacturing.
• IPC-A-610 experience.
• IPC-J-STD experience.
• Experience performing hand soldering, de-soldering, and rework on printed circuit boards, wire harnesses, and mechanical assemblies.
• Experience using soldering irons, solder-paste dispensing tools, hot-air rework stations, de-soldering tools, and precision hand tools.
• Strong understanding of solder joint reliability, thermal management, and contamination control.
• Ability to read schematics, assembly drawings, and bills of material.
• Strong manual dexterity, visual acuity, and attention to detail.
• Ability to read and write English.
• Ability to take and pass a medical exam as outlined in the supplier guide.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
• Ability to wear required PPE and use fume extraction when exposed to solder fumes.

Preferred Skills

• Technical certification such as IPC-A-610 or IPC-J-STD-001.
• Knowledge of ESD safety practices and cleanroom procedures.
• Experience with IPC-2221 or IPC-2222 design standards.
• Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO-13485 quality management systems.
• Experience with process audits, root-cause analysis, or corrective-action implementation.

What You'll Do

• Perform hand soldering, de-soldering, and rework on PCBs, wire harnesses, and mechanical assemblies.
• Inspect solder joints visually and with magnification tools.
• Perform functional testing as required.
• Document work according to traceability requirements.
• Report non-conformances and corrective actions.
• Calibrate and maintain soldering equipment, including tip cleaning and temperature control.
• Support workstation cleaning and preventive maintenance activities.
• Generate and update work instructions, process sheets, and repair logs.
• Follow cleanroom or controlled-environment protocols when applicable.
• Work with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to improve processes and reduce rework.

Work Schedule / Shift

Monday-Thursday, 3:30 PM - 2:00 AM EST.

Pay

$18.00 - $24.00 per hour
