The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections (IDJC), Lewiston is seeking an engaging Instructor Specialist (Teachers) to join our team. This position is located at our on-site school Juniper Hills, a special purpose school accredited through Cognia at our Lewiston Facility. The Instructor Specialist will plan, develop, implement, and evaluate specialized educational programs; provide leadership, direction and consultation to instructors and treatment staff; provide individual and group educational programs in academic OR vocational areas to youth in a rehabilitation/treatment setting; perform related work. The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections, Lewiston has regionalized state services for juveniles committed to its custody, making it possible for most juveniles to remain close enough to their communities so parents and other key community members can take part in the juvenile's treatment. State juvenile correctional centers are located in Lewiston, Nampa, and St. Anthony and provide a full complement of services for youth who range from 10 to 20 years of age. Nampa is located just minutes from the capital city of Boise in southwestern Idaho. It is the second largest city in Idaho with all the amenities one would expect of an urban area while still retaining that hometown atmosphere. This position must attend a three-week POST academy in Meridian, Idaho. Training and time is paid by IDJC and must be completed within first year of employment. Responsibilities: 1. Program Delivery and Coordination:
- Participates as member of treatment team to determine treatment goals; provides education and instruction in accordance with special education, 504, and programmatic needs, as applicable; serves as liaison to assigned living unit and integrates educational programs with other treatment services; coordinates student educational goals with staff; consults with other instructors, program staff, to discuss student progress; consults with staff, parents, and officials regarding student management techniques, academic and behavioral progress.
- Determines educational goals; plans and develops a Course of Study compatible with open-entry, open-exit practices; utilizes assessment instruments for intervention purposes; assesses student needs and capabilities; plans and implements individuals' educational plans; determines appropriate instructional methods; guides peer-group interaction to enhance student learning and problem resolution; develops course materials; develops and implements classroom activities; evaluates student progress; meet with students regarding progress in meeting their educational goals; maintains records and prepares reports. Works with special education teachers to to meet Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and for students who have special learning needs.
- Serves as role model for appropriate social behavior; encourages and motivates students in developing self-esteem, academic knowledge and vocational skills; instructs in living skills, fosters protection of individual rights, and ensures student safety and positive interactions; intervenes in student conflicts and confrontations; reports accidents, changes in health, and emergencies; escorts students on and off campus for various activities; obtains and monitors use of classroom equipment and materials; willingness to participate in aspects that foster the safety and security of the youth, staff and facility including assisting in searches, conducting pat searches, de-escalating youth, and interacting with combative youth .

- Meet entrance requirements established by the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) academy for correction officers including the following: Be at least 21 years of age Be eligible for and in good standing to obtain a POST certification within 12 months of hire Possess a high school diploma, GED or equivalent For those that served in the military, must have a discharge indicating honorable, uncharacterized, or general under honorable conditions.
- Hold a current and valid driver's license in your state of residence.
- Be a U.S. Citizen No conviction, withheld judgment, suspicion or imposed conviction of the following: See POST IDAPA Code 11.11.01 for more information. A felony age eighteen (18) years old or older at the time of conviction A misdemeanor DUI within the last 2 years or had 2 or more misdemeanor DUI within the last 2 years or had 2 or more misdemeanor DUI offenses within 5 years immediately preceding application. A misdemeanor crime involving domestic violence within the last 5 years preceding this application. A misdemeanor crime of deceit or a misdemeanor sex offense within the last 5 years preceding this application. A misdemeanor drug-related offense within one (1) year immediately preceding this application.
- No purchase or possession of marijuana, cannabis, hashish, hash oil, or THC in synthetic and natural forms marijuana within one (1) year immediately preceding job application.
- Willingness to: deal with violence, harassment, threats, verbal abuse; break up fights, control disturbances, and physically restrain offenders; perform searches for contraband and weapons; work alone unarmed among unrestricted offenders; work in secure/locked facility in confined spaces; learn and follow department policies, procedures, rules, and instructions; set aside personal prejudices and be fair; work in high-stress, hostile environments; transport juveniles; become certified in CPR.
- Physical requirements: no hearing, sight, or physical limitations that would prevent performance of duties.
- Meet Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Juvenile Facility Standards and must never have been the subject of the following: Been the perpetrator of sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution; Been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; Been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse. D. Had allegations substantiated against me for an incident(s) of sexual harassment, sexual abuse, and/or child abuse against another person; Resigned from a job where I was the subject of a pending investigation being conducted for an allegation of sexual abuse against another person.
