OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN (CPS Academic Year)

General Statement of Duties Employee performs a variety of tasks to assist the Optometrist in eye examinations and corrective procedures. Employee records patient medical histories and helps with preparing the patient for the vision examination. Pretesting may include visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, pupil reflexes, visual field testing, pressure inside the eye, and blood pressure. Performs related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications (KSAs) Knowledge Of Providing customer and personal services. Eye care and vision care products and services. Clerical and administrative procedures. Current optical theory, materials, and practices. Functions, techniques, technical components, and maintenance procedures of optometric equipment. Physics, algebra, geometry, and mechanical drawing. Safety procedures. Skill To Operate appropriate computer equipment; use properly all related hardware and software. Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in written or electronic/magnetic form. Ability To Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to perform tasks. Write clearly, concisely, and logically. Follow oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Maintain confidentiality of client information. Interact effectively with withdrawn and hostile clients. Make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects. Required Education And Experience Each applicant must be a Certified Optometric Technician (copy of license required). Additionally each applicant must have a minimum of one year of experience as an Optometric Technician. Military Education & Experience Evaluation Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations. Working and Physical Conditions Examples of Work Performed: Processes patient information through the computer system and helps maintain the operation of the reception records and examination room area. Retrieves patient records from other clinics to ensure complete information on file prior to the appointment date. Manages continuous patient flow by effectively communicating with team members and providers. Prepares referrals, work and/or school excuse letters, written prescriptions for providers to sign, and staff consult letters to primary care provider. Conducts inventory of supplies at the stock examination rooms; verifies and maintains stock level and recommends disposal for all expired supply items. Disinfects and wipes down all equipment and instruments.
