Travel RN Job Details

• Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
• Specialty: Cardiac Stepdown / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,980–$2,080
• Assignment: 13-week travel nursing contract, with potential for an extended assignment
• Schedule: 36 hours per week; 3 shifts per week
• Shift: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Call: None
• Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 5 patients
• Floating: May float to medical-surgical areas, including other adult units, to care for medical-surgical patients

Cardiac Stepdown Travel Nurse Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent PCU, cardiac stepdown, or progressive care nursing experience
• Valid Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• ACLS certification preferred
• Oncology nursing experience or OCN, ONS, or ONCC certification preferred
• Experience interpreting and managing dysrhythmias
• Competency starting and maintaining peripheral IVs
• Experience with chemotherapy administration or monitoring preferred
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and insulin drip titration preferred
• Availability during the first two weeks of the assignment
• Willingness to work in a collaborative, floating travel nurse environment

Travel Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care for adult and geriatric patients in a cardiac stepdown, progressive care, and medical-surgical setting.
• Monitor and manage patients with sepsis, renal failure, respiratory failure, cancer, heart failure, diabetic ketoacidosis, and other complex diagnoses.
• Interpret cardiac rhythms and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
• Administer medications and therapies, including IV insulin protocols and chemotherapy-related treatments within scope and competency.
• Start and maintain IV access and manage patients requiring advanced monitoring and therapies.
• Use Epic to complete accurate, timely clinical documentation and communicate patient updates.
• Collaborate with providers, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rehabilitation, social services, rapid response teams, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
• Float to designated medical-surgical areas as needed while maintaining safe, compassionate patient care.
• Participate in every-other-weekend coverage and support unit operations during assigned night shifts.
