Head Softball Coach

Office: Athletics, Physical Education, and Campus Recreation (APER) Reports to: Director of APER Work Period: 11 month Hours: Full-time Overtime: Exempt Job Grade: 8 General Summary Provides leadership and oversees all aspects of the Softball program, including coaching the team; planning, organizing, and supervising team practices; actively identifying, evaluating, and recruiting student-athletes. Works within federal, state and local guidelines, office/department, division and college policies and procedures, and the NCAA, athletic conference guidelines. Reports to the director of athletics and works with students, staff, officials, parents, faculty, and both on and off-campus constancies. Essential Job Functions Coordinates all on and off-campus recruitment activities within the guidelines of the NCAA. Ensures the safety and wellness of players and works collaboratively with the Athletic Training staff on effective and holistic preventative and responsive management of injuries. Complies with all NCAA, Conference, college, department, state and federal regulations and policies. Provides leadership and coaching for the intercollegiate Softball team. Supervises and coordinates the work of assistant coaches, volunteers and graduate assistants. Monitors and actively encourages participants to succeed academically and represent the college with the leadership and integrity, both on and off the field. Schedules, implements, and attends all pre-season, in-season, and post-season practices and contests. Schedules all team contests; coordinates special events, hosts college tournament(s), and relevant camps. Provides financial accountability for all ASC and non-ASC Softball functions hosted by the coach/team/department. Teaches within the Physical Education curriculum on areas of expertise and/or certification. Oversees strength, conditioning, and nutritional, and financial literacy support for Softball. Prepares athletes for competition and performs post-season evaluations. Coordinates team travel arrangements including maintain driver and van certification appropriate legal requirements to drive college vehicles. Supervises the laundering and care of team uniforms, and care and maintenance of team facilities and equipment. Ensures compliance with athletic department facility contracts, scheduling priorities, and guidelines. Reports weekly recruiting contact data and maintain accountability for recruiting/enrollment benchmarks. Requirements Education: Undergraduate degree required; master’s degree preferred in related occupational field of study. Experience: Minimum two years of work experience at the collegiate level with proven recruiting experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Considerable knowledge of fitness concepts and techniques, NCAA rules and regulations, and rules and scoring. Familiarity with recruiting techniques, high school coaches and athletes, and student-athlete concerns. Effective interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written). Strong computer skills in a Windows-based environment (Microsoft: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), including at least intermediate level word processing and spreadsheet development. Ability to work with diverse populations, as part of a team, and collaborate with others. Demonstrated ability to work independently, to maintain confidentiality, and to supervise others. Demonstrated strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes. Other Irregular hours are required on a regular basis. Travel required from office to other locations on a regular basis. Coaches must comply with all NCAA rules and regulations, and have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA and the College with truthful and accurate information regarding rules violations. Coaches may be suspended or terminated if found to be in deliberate or serious violation of NCAA regulations. Coaches will be evaluated through an annual performance appraisal process and are expected to meet annual recruitment and enrollment goals. Physical Demands Expect intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, running, walking, throwing, and occasional lifting of light objects.
