Certified Recreational Therapist (CTRS)

Location: Huntsville, UT Job Type: Full-Time Work Setting: In Person Pay: $20.00-$24.00 per hour

Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Certified Recreational Therapist (CTRS) to join a residential treatment program serving adolescent boys ages 13-18 experiencing severe anxiety and OCD.

The Recreational Therapist will use therapeutic activities, recreation, and expressive approaches to support patients' mental, physical, emotional, and social well-being. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside an experienced treatment team in a supportive environment focused on individualized patient care.

Responsibilities

• Conduct activity assessments through patient observation and interviews to identify needs, interests, skills, and limitations.
• Develop and implement individualized therapeutic activity plans.
• Plan and facilitate recreational, leisure, and therapeutic activities.
• Lead activities designed to support patients' mental and physical well-being.
• Provide activities such as sports, music, art, dance, exercise, games, relaxation techniques, and community outings.
• Modify activities based on individual patient needs and abilities.
• Help patients develop social skills and greater independence.
• Collaborate with the treatment team to support patient treatment goals.
• Document patient progress and participation as required.
• Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional approach with patients.
• Prioritize patient safety and respond appropriately to patient concerns or behavioral needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy or a related recreation-based field eligible for national certification.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Previous recreation or therapeutic recreation experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Experience working with adolescents is preferred.
• Current Utah certification/licensure as a CTRS/CTRS-equivalent, or currently pursuing national certification.
• Candidates with certification in a specialty such as Art, Dance, or Music, or relevant clinical licensure with expressive therapy certification, may also be considered.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Must be able to successfully complete a background check and drug screening.

Certifications

• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or currently pursuing national certification.
• First Aid and CPR certification required.
• De-escalation and restraint certification required; training may be provided upon hire.
