The Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) role is a specialized, community-based position focused on providing individual and family therapy. Interventions should be strengths-based and focused on promoting symptom stability, increasing the recipient's ability to cope and relate to others, and enhancing the highest level of functioning in the community. Under the general supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, the EMDR Therapist requires a deep understanding of the principles and techniques of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, the ability to connect with clients in a compassionate and empowering manner, and confidence in working with trauma. As an EMDR therapist, you will work collaboratively with clients to help them develop skills to improve their quality of life. The EMDR Therapist must be passionate about delivering excellent client care, exercise good judgment and initiative, work independently, and demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills. Roles and responsibilities will include the following, but not limited to:- Establish a therapeutic relationship with the client, including any preliminary communication before the first appointment.
- Conduct biopsychosocial assessments with clients and/or their families, with special attention to histories of trauma and oppression.
- Provide a diagnosis after the first session.
- Complete assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes promptly/contemporaneously as consistent with the relevant state licensing boards.
- Conduct follow-up with clients and/or collateral contacts as needed, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to their well-being.
- Maintain accurate documentation: Keep detailed and confidential records of client progress, treatment plans, and session notes. Accurate documentation is vital for continuity of care and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure the safety and security of all notes, reinforcing our commitment to responsible and ethical practice.
- Promote a safe therapeutic environment: Create an atmosphere of safety and trust that encourages clients to express themselves openly. A supportive environment is critical for effective therapy.
- Stay updated on EMDR research: Continuously engage in professional development by staying informed about new research and techniques in EMDR. This commitment ensures the use of evidence-based practices.
- Stay updated on DBT research: Continuously engage in professional development by staying informed about new research and techniques in DBT. This commitment ensures the use of evidence-based practices.
- Participate in supervision and peer support: Engage in regular supervision and consultation with other therapists to discuss cases and receive feedback. This practice fosters professional growth and enhances therapeutic skills.
- EMDR certification.
- Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling.
- At least three years of experience working with trauma survivors, particularly in systemic oppression, interpersonal violence, and abuse.
- Advanced training or supervision in EMDR trauma-specific intervention is required for this position, as it equips EMDR therapy professionals with the necessary skills to provide specialized care to trauma survivors.
- Basic life support or CPR certification.
- No suspension/exclusion/debarment from participation in federal health care programs (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid).
- Certification in IM+CANS assessment.
- Licensed in one or more of the following required: LCPC, LPC, LCSW, LSW.
On-site and possible fieldwork (Monday through Friday)
