This role combines hardware engineering, device troubleshooting, and fleet reliability ownership to maintain high uptime across 200K+ devices. The engineer partners with software, device management, and operations teams to diagnose issues, improve hardware standards, and optimize device performance in real-world conditions. This role also owns evaluation and implementation of enterprise device management (MDM/EMM) solutions to enable remote diagnostics, improve update reliability, and scale device operations. The position requires strong technical judgment, cross-functional collaboration, and ownership of device platform strategy. Partner with Android software, backend, and device management teams to resolve hardware‑software integration issues. Manage vendor relationships (OEMs, hardware suppliers, MDM providers), including evaluation, escalation, and performance management. Evaluate tradeoffs between GMS‑certified and non-GMS devices, including impact on application compatibility, update delivery, operational complexity, and total cost of ownership. Drive hardware lifecycle strategy including procurement guidance, failure tracking, replacement strategy, and end-of-life planning. Review and validate compatibility of ancillary equipment (e.g., charging systems, mounts, cables) to ensure reliable device operation in field environments.
