Sr. Buyer

Responsibilities Monitor and adhere to applicable laws, regulations and policies regarding the purchase of goods and services. Review inventory levels of raw materials and purchase raw materials based on requirements to maintain production runs. Purchase maintenance and factory supplies as required. Review raw material cost changes with the accounting team. Maintain relationships and negotiate with suppliers, acquiring critical supplies. Collaborate with appropriate team members to determine costs and supply needs for production. Assist the manager in evaluating market conditions within the industry while searching for suppliers. Negotiate and maintain professional business relationships with suppliers. Perform expediting and de‑expediting functions as necessary to avoid interruptions and maintain balanced inventory. Support inventory cycle count program and monitor obsolete materials. Purchase proper supplies and materials according to specifications, keep detailed procurement records, and update computer systems promptly. Maintain compliance with Marmon IEI Environmental, Health and Safety policies and ISO Quality System procedures, and support Lean/5S and process improvement initiatives. Provide coverage in the absence of the Material Manager and work as a team with peers, managers and employees. Take responsibility for other projects, tasks, etc., as assigned. Education & Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business or a related discipline preferred. Minimum of 3 years of previous experience as a buyer or in a similar position (5+ years of related experience preferred). Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) is a plus. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of applicable purchasing laws, regulations and policies. Ability to read and interpret production and materials reports. Strong knowledge of inventory processes and cycle counts. Excellent communication, negotiation, organization and documentation skills. Strong research and analytical skills; ability to perform basic arithmetic, statistics and other mathematical applications. Experience with forecasting and budgeting. Proficiency in Microsoft applications and applicable production applications. Ability to multi‑task, follow priorities, troubleshoot, take initiative and work independently. Experience in wire and cable is a plus. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Ability to work long hours in a sedentary position, sitting, talking, looking at a computer, charts/graphs and performing repetitive motions. Follow safety guidelines and wear required PPE. Briefly work in a warm and noisy environment while on the production floor. Move objects and materials of at least 25 lbs.
