Electrical Power Systems Engineer

York Space Systems is seeking an Electrical Power Systems Engineer who is excited to work on real spacecraft and grow into an expert in electrical power systems. In this role, you’ll support the design, integration, testing, and operation of electrical power systems for space vehicles.

You’ll join a fast-moving engineering team where solving meaningful technical problems is part of everyday work. This is a great opportunity for an early‑career engineer who wants hands-on experience with spacecraft hardware, exposure to advanced power electronics, and the ability to contribute to flight‑critical systems while developing toward senior-level ownership.

This role will be fully on-site in our Greenwood Village office.

Responsibilities

• Support the design, integration, and verification of spacecraft electrical power systems.
• Contribute to analysis and design across power generation, storage, conversion, distribution, protection, and load management.
• Help define and refine component or system-level hardware requirements.
• Support development of electrical interfaces between solar arrays, batteries, avionics, heaters, propulsion systems, and payloads.
• Assist in evaluating converters, switches, SSPCs, relays, magnetics, capacitors, and other power hardware.
• Work with internal teams and suppliers to help resolve design, manufacturing, qualification, and test issues.
• Review schematics, electrical analyses, test plans, and test data with mentorship from senior staff.
• Participate in hardware bring-up, environmental testing, vehicle integration, and occasionally in launch or commissioning support.
• Identify technical risks within assigned tasks and collaborate with senior engineers to close them using analysis, testing, or design updates.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Foundational knowledge of DC power systems.
• Coursework or project experience with DC conversion or distribution.
• Ability to analyze transient behavior, fault response, stability, and efficiency in power systems.
• Experience supporting hardware through design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to interpret schematics and electrical documentation.
• Problem-solving ability, particularly with incomplete or evolving technical information.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across engineering disciplines.
• Willingness to work hands-on with hardware.

• Willingness to work full-time in our Greenwood Village, CO office; this position does not support remote or hybrid work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Internship or industry experience with spacecraft, aerospace, or similar power systems. Experience with solar arrays, batteries, BMS, or regulated/unregulated power buses.
• Familiarity with grounding, bonding, EMC, or ESD constraints.
• Experience with SPICE, MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or similar modeling/analysis tools.
• Ability to assist in investigating electrical failures within assigned subsystem work.
• Experience supporting qualification or acceptance testing.
