Design Engineer 3 - Washington, DC

We are seeking a Design Engineer 3 to join our Security and Electronic Systems (SES) business unit. The role involves designing, engineering, integrating, operating, and maintaining electronic security services, including intrusion detection, access control, biometric authentication, video surveillance, audiovisual, IT systems, perimeter defense and command and control systems for federal, local, and commercial customers across high‑growth markets. Responsibilities As a Design Engineer 3, you will be an expert in designing and deploying various technologies to improve our customers' physical security posture, manage technical requirements, and lead the regional engineering team based in Stuttgart, Germany. The position requires in‑depth knowledge of physical security solutions, design modeling and standards, and the implementation of both proven and cutting‑edge technology. You should quickly and thoroughly understand customer needs and translate them into scalable solution designs globally. Define and determine design project scope of work based on customer needs, providing high‑quality design solutions and incorporating new models to augment design standards. Review Request for Proposals (RFP) documentation, Statement of Work, and Client Specifications provided for new project bids. Develop Bill of Materials (BOM) and forecast engineering time for new project bids. Develop procedures to validate system configuration; create test plans, deployment/commissioning plans and administration procedures. Develop and improve design standards. Lead complex projects, mentor and oversee projects execution through design excellence processes, ensuring high delivery quality. Design, sustain, and provide technical support for deployed security systems. Partner with engineering leadership to identify skill gaps and prioritize training initiatives. Collaborate with installation, deployment, and Project Management teams to maintain standards, provide recommendations and guidance on solution deployments, and assist in resolving high‑level issues. Collaborate with other engineering teams on new technology developments or changes in customer environments that may require new solutions. Maintain working knowledge of electronic security systems and applications such as CCURE, Genetec, Lenel, Milestone, HID, Axis, and others; understand system operation, flaws, and improvements. Identify new technologies or changes in customer environments that may require new solutions and present them to senior engineering management for development. Serve as a subject‑matter expert on security engineering needs and requirements for system performance, installations, and sustainment programs. Qualifications Clearance/Citizen Type: Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship, for access to classified information; ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance. Key Requirements: Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, computer science, information systems, engineering science, engineering management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university. Minimum of 5+ years of experience in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity, with provision of SE services for physical security systems and IT solutions. Desired Skills: Strong oral, written, and presentation skills. Demonstrated background working with multidisciplinary teams. Excellent time‑management and organization skills to meet deadlines and quality objectives. Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is a plus. Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
