JOB TITLE Transportation Specialist - Two part-time positions available REPORTS TO Chief Finance and Administrative Office FLSA STATUS Non-exempt, hourly LOCATION Des Moines, IA SALARY $15.00 - $17.50 per hour dependent upon experience TERMS Position 1: 15-20 hours per week average (Mon - Thurs during the school year, some Fridays during the summer) Position 2: 8-12 hours per week average (two day per week, Mon - Thurs) Primarily afternoon and early evening hours, some morning and early afternoons in the summer or on days school is not in session Organization Summary Mission To empower participants to be strong, self-confident, and resilient. Values Equity, Resiliency, Accessibility, Community, Advocacy What We Do The Young Women’s Resource Center (YWRC) is a non-profit organization that supports, educates, and champions for participants ages 8-24. YWRC participants include anyone who identifies or has been socialized as female. Through small groups and individual support, the YWRC provides programming for all participants, no matter what they may be going through. The YWRC’s unique structure features three branches of programming - Counseling, Girls Inc., and Young Moms - to better serve the members of our community throughout various stages of life along with other services that meet participants’ essential needs and remove barriers to their participation. Our programs and services enable participants’ self-determination so they can set and achieve goals that are personally meaningful to them and that support their long-term independence. Position Summary The Transportation Specialist operates a YWRC van to transport young people to and from YWRC activities and/or programs. provides. Key duties include driving a commercial van, ensuring participants are following safety protocols (seatbelts and carseats), reporting any maintenance concerns, documenting numbers transported, and fueling vehicle. Responsibilities Driving Operate a 15-person or 6 passenger van to transport participants to and from specified destinations, as directed. Perform routine vehicle maintenance such as carwashes, checking oil, fluids, and tires; report non-routine problems/malfunctioning equipment to supervisor. Follow specified instructions, procedures, and standards for the efficient and safe operation of the vehicle, and for the care and safety of passengers. Conform to all federal, state, and local traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of a commercial van for passenger use. Additional Responsibilities Attends agency meetings and additional staff trainings as required including team, staff, and committee meetings. Work with and supervise volunteers and interns as appropriate to fulfill job duties. Support YWRC fundraising events. Support YWRC marketing and communication efforts. Any other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Philosophical agreement with YWRC’s mission, vision, values, and work. Must be at least 25 years of age to meet commercial auto policy requirements At least 2 years of driving experience. Must have or obtain a valid Iowa Class D3 vehicle operator's permit prior to start date. Must pass pre-employment DCI, CPI, and DMV background checks. Skilled in the operation of commercial passenger vans or equivalent. Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions. Knowledge of the greater Des Moines area and surrounding areas. Ability to identify vehicle problems and malfunctions. Knowledge of requirements and standards related to the safe and efficient operation of light commercial vehicles. Knowledge of federal, state, and local traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of a commercial passenger vehicle. Passage of all required criminal history background checks. Preferred CPR certification or ability to attain within 3 months of hire. Mandatory Reporter certification or ability to attain within 60 days of hire. Familiarity with Trauma Informed Care/Trauma Responsive Care. Fluency in a second language. Spanish, Swahili, Arabic, French preferred.
