Speech and Language Pathologist: Redford Union School District

JOB DESCRIPTION: The speech-language pathologist will work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, and social/cognitive communication deficits that interfere with the student's ability to participate in the general education curriculum or educational program. Speech Pathology is a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.

Qualifications

• Master in Speech-Language Pathology and State of Michigan Speech-Language Pathology license.
• A passionate commitment to improving learning for all students.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.
• Evidence of ability to establish positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
• Successful experience with consulting in a general education setting.
• Superior verbal and written communication skills.
• ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence preferred.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
• Evaluates students for speech and language impairments.
• Provides direct one-on-one and/or group speech and language services to eligible students.
• Develops and writes annual goals and short-term instructional objectives for students assigned to the caseload.
• Compiles and maintains records, written reports and other documentation for students assigned to the caseload.
• Acts as case provider for speech and language eligible students only.
• Provides consultation to staff and parents/guardians regarding speech and language services, including use of augmentative communication systems and devices related to the individual needs of students.
• Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families as appropriate.
• Works as a team member with instructional staff and parents/guardians to refer eligible students to outside agencies and other community resources.
• Attends and participates in Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as requested.
• Implements evidence-based intervention with individuals and groups of students in various communicative settings.
• Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining equipment and supplies for speech and language services.
• Responsible for providing in-service and training to staff for the integration of language development into daily classroom instruction.
• Consults, counsels, and collaborates with parents, school personnel, students and appropriate community agencies regarding behavioral and educational concerns developed in a MTSS.
• Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities.
• Executes other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Student Services/designee or building administrator.

Salary: Per the Redford Union Education Association.
