Job Description
About Girls Inc. of Greater Miami
Founded in 2018, Girls Inc. of Greater Miami (GIGM) is part of a national network with more than 160 years of history. Our mission is "Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold."
Our programs for older girls expand opportunities for leadership, career exploration, and personal growth. They include:
- Power Hour : a career readiness program for girls in grades 9-12 across Miami-Dade. Over seven Saturdays from October-April, girls try out careers across different career clusters, work alongside industry and college mentors, and build an Innovation Pitch that they present at the Celebration. Girls who complete at least their junior year with GIGM become eligible for a paid summer internship.
- Girls Inc. Connect : a community workshop series that introduces girls to GIGM. Single sessions reach girls in Miami-Dade communities GIGM does not yet serve and connect each participant to an ongoing program.
Our professionally trained staff provide mentorship, safe spaces, and programming that addresses the challenges girls face. We cultivate physically and emotionally safe environments where girls are encouraged to take risks, learn from experience, and grow.
What a Typical Week Looks Like
Power Hour is the primary focus of this role, at about 60-70% of the Program Facilitator's time. Most of the remaining time goes to Girls Inc. Connect, and the role may also support other GIGM programming. In a given week, the Program Facilitator may complete remote tasks, attend virtual meetings, work in person, and facilitate Saturday programming.
A meaningful part of the role is logistics: gathering and transporting supplies, confirming details with FIU and community site contacts, and coordinating with guest speakers, mentors, and volunteers before they arrive. The Program Facilitator handles routine changes independently and raises safety concerns or larger problems to the Director of Programs.
Schedule
This is a school-year position, running from Fall 2026 through June 2027, with potential to continue into the summer. Power Hour sessions run October through April. In May and June, the focus shifts to preparing participants for their summer internships.
- Power Hour Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at FIU: October 24, November 21, January 9, February 6, March 13, and April 17. You must be available for all six dates.
- Girls Inc. Connect Saturdays: three to five community sessions during the year, including February 13 and May 8. Other dates will be announced.
- Monday afternoons (time TBD): virtual huddles with Power Hour peer leaders and mentors ahead of each session.
- Weekly meetings with the Director of Programs: held between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. About two each month are remote, and the other two are in person at the GIGM partner site in Opa-locka (subject to change).
Expected Hours and pay
Approximately 10-20 hours per week, at $20 per hour. Hours run heavier in the week leading up to each Power Hour session.
Responsibilities
Power Hour (60-70%)
- Lead every Power Hour session, and attend the Monday huddle ahead of each one.
- Help train, onboard and oversee peer leaders.
- Coordinate panelists, mentors, and volunteers, including scheduling, materials, and day-of support.
- Help coordinate mentor matches and summer internship placements, and prepare participants to start their internships in May and June.
Girls Inc. Connect and Other Programming
- Facilitate Girls Inc. Connect community sessions at sites across Miami-Dade.
- Support other GIGM programming as needed.
Facilitation and Safety
- Use hands-on, interactive strategies, and scaffold sessions so girls at every grade and skill level can take part.
- Set and reinforce GIGM behavioral expectations, and follow emergency and site safety procedures.
- Maintain a physically and emotionally safe space where every participant is included, using emotion coaching and a growth mindset.
Logistics and Coordination
- Lead communication and coordination with participants, mentors, panelists, and volunteers before each session, including scheduling, reminders, materials, and day-of support.
- Gather, transport, and track program supplies across sites, and flag shortages before they affect a session.
- Adjust plans in real time when a site, group size, or schedule changes.
Participants and Families
- Build consistent relationships with participants, follow up on attendance gaps, and support recruitment.
- Communicate with families about schedules, expectations, and participation.
Planning, Documentation, and Growth
- Meet weekly with the Director of Programs, as described under Schedule.
- Prepare materials ahead of each program day, and reflect on each session to improve the next one.
- Record attendance, administer and track surveys, and keep program records current.
- Take part in scheduled trainings, apply coaching and feedback in the next session, and follow all organizational policies.
Who This Role Is For
- A confident group leader who is comfortable owning a large room of teenagers and leading it.
- Someone comfortable directing adults, including mentors, volunteers, and guest speakers, and keeping them informed and on track.
- A highly organized and efficient professional who keeps track of details without reminders.
- Someone who works with a sense of urgency, follows through quickly, and takes initiative when something needs to get done.
- A positive and warm person who believes in what girls and teens are capable of and shows it in how they lead.
- Someone who welcomes feedback and puts it into practice quickly, since coaching is a regular part of this role.
- Someone who stays steady when plans change. Power Hour is still in its pilot stages and keeps evolving as the team learns, so this person picks up the new direction and runs with it.
Who This Role Is Not For
- Someone who prefers a slower pace or needs extended time to act on a request.
- Someone who is uncomfortable leading a large group or giving direction to adults.
- Someone who needs a fixed routine or a finished plan before getting started.
- Someone who finds frequent feedback discouraging.
- Someone looking for a behind-the-scenes role without hands-on time with girls.
Qualifications
- Experience facilitating groups of middle or high school youth.
- Strong group facilitation and classroom management skills.
- Highly organized, with the ability to track supplies, schedules, and logistics across multiple sites and programs at once.
- Valid Florida driver's license and a reliable personal vehicle for travel between FIU, community sites, and the Opa-locka office.
- Punctual, prepared, and able to run a session independently at a site.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with youth, families, school staff, and community partners.
- Commitment to the mission and values of GIGM.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including standing for extended periods, moving comfortably around a variety of room setups, moving between program sites, lifting and transporting program materials up to approximately 50 pounds, and actively engaging with participants during sessions.
- Availability for every Power Hour and Girls Inc. Connect Saturday listed above, Monday afternoon huddles, and weekday afternoons and evenings.
- A reliable computer and internet connection for remote tasks and virtual meetings.
- Ability to pass and maintain a Level 2 background screening.
- Associate degree or equivalent (60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework). Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and willingness to learn GIGM program databases.
- Experience with career readiness, workforce, internship, or college access programming preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
