Director of Development

Position Summary JFS seeks a Director of Development to partner with the Chief Advancement Officer in designing, overseeing, and executing comprehensive fundraising initiatives aimed at achieving annual individual philanthropic revenue of $8–$10 million. This leadership role manages a high‑performing team of development professionals—including major gifts, planned giving specialists, and annual fund staff—with a focus on systematically renewing and scaling revenue year‑over‑year. Location: 3201 S. Tamarac Dr., Denver, CO 80231. Primarily in‑office with hybrid options available. Salary Range: $95,000 – $110,000 per annum. Resumes accepted through April30,2026. Essential Functions Team Leadership & Management: day‑to‑day oversight and management of five development staff members, including recruiting, coaching, and mentoring. Strategic Operations: oversee strategic and administrative functions of the Development department, including prospect research, database management, pipeline development, and donor stewardship programs. Donor Relationship: maintain a personal portfolio of high‑level donors and prospects through identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, including proposal writing and event outreach. Pipeline Development: strategic oversight of prospect management, implementing data‑driven strategies to expand donor pipelines and move prospects through qualification, cultivation, and solicitation. Mission Advocacy: maintain deep, current knowledge of JFS programs and services to effectively communicate impact to donors and guide fundraising staff. Performance Management: drive team success through meetings, professional development, rigorous pipeline reviews, wealth assessments, and accountability metrics. Revenue Leadership: monitor and manage development revenues to meet and exceed departmental goals ($7.5million FY27) and build capacity toward $8–$10million targets. Culture Development: mentor and coach direct reports to foster a collaborative, high‑performance environment. Systems Management: collaborate with Development and Operations teams to implement gift processing best practices, maintain database integrity, and provide transparent progress reporting. Cross‑Departmental Partnership: work with the CAO and Director of Marketing & Communications on annual development plans and optimization of monthly giving programs. Data‑Driven Decision Making: analyze fundraising data and philanthropic trends to inform strategic decisions. Portfolio Management: maintain a focused personal portfolio of major gift prospects, managing the full fundraising cycle. Donor Engagement: create compelling engagement opportunities for major and mid‑level donors aligned with JFS goals. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Preferred bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration or related field. Preferred 7+ years of experience in fundraising, managing, mentoring, and building a team of successful professionals. At least three years’ prior management experience preferred. Colorado‑based fundraising experience is a plus. Experience with fundraising CRMs is a plus. Other Qualifications Proven fundraising excellence: sophisticated donor stewardship and major gift track record. Strategic pipeline mastery and leadership in training staff. High‑initiative leadership: self‑motivated, enthusiastic, resilient with minimal supervision. Operational excellence: manage multiple complex projects, meet deadlines, and solve problems independently. Exceptional leadership & communication: team building, staff management, and cross‑departmental collaboration. Relationship architecture: success with high‑net‑worth donors, volunteers, and stakeholders. Diplomatic acumen: active listening and superior verbal and written communication. Collaborative strategic thinking: data‑informed decisions to enhance effectiveness and sustainability. Cultural competency: familiarity with Jewish culture, values, and the Denver/Boulder community is highly preferred. Certification/Licensing Professional designation as a Certified Fund‑Raising Executive (CFRE) is a plus. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises staff, assigns work, provides coaching, feedback, performance evaluations, and supports professional development. Work Environment In‑office position (hybrid possible). Remote and in‑office work may be combined. Work hours generally during regular business hours with occasional evening/weekend work as needed. Essential physical requirements: frequent sitting, typing, and use of standard office equipment. Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.
