HEAD GROWERReports to: Director of Growing, WestOnsite: Monday – FridayTHE ROLEThe Head Grower is a senior leadership position within the company whose primary role is to manage all aspects of crop production to achieve best in class yields and quality for the designated greenhouse region. With two direct reports, you’ll oversee and mentor the Assistant Grower and Growing Specialist. This role reports to the Director of Growing, West and works closely with the region Plant Manager.WHAT YOU’LL DOYield & QualityOversee yield & quality for all crops to achieve company targetsUse data driven approach to manage all areas of crop productionClimate Management & Irrigation SchedulesOversee climate strategy for all plants and compartmentsDetermine optimal settings for all greenhouse equipment and irrigationEvaluate climate strategy impact on energy use and yieldGreenhouse ManagementOversee and determine all cultural practices for young plant productionOversee IPM Program – compliance, record keeping and IPM strategyOversee young plant program- dictating nursery culture and strategiesMonitor functioning of greenhouse, production and irrigation equipment regularly with Maintenance SupervisorOversee plant nutrition programReview crop schedules and adjust as needed for sales, operations or plant needsProvide training to operations team as needed on crop specific tasksFacilitate a culture of continuous improvement and teamworkProvide continuous climate management training to the assistant growerEnsure proper documentation of growing KPIs in central growing dashboardDocument all growing strategies and targets in the facility roadmapManage plant nutrient calculator to determine add-ins and communicate to growing specialist via print outs.Cost TrackingReview agricultural supplies spending to report to the Director of GrowingLead by example and develop high-performing direct reports through setting clear metrics, goals, and accountabilityWHO YOU ARERequired Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in Plant Science, Horticulture or Related Field5-10 years’ experience in management role in commercial greenhouse productionUnderstanding of all aspects of crop production and growing in CEAExperience with climate control software platformsExtremely well organizedExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skillsStrong computer skillsAble to drive cross-functional alignment, especially with facility Plant ManagerOnsite Monday – Friday in Davis, CAEmployment Authorized to Work in the U.S.A.Ideal Qualifications:Master’s Degree in Plant Science, Horticulture or Related FieldCommercial production experience in hydroponicsCommercial production experience in leafy greens and herbsSuperior problem-solving and analytical skillsExperience with business intelligence systemsPassionate commitment to the company visionWHO WE AREGotham Greens is on a mission to transform how and where fresh produce is grown.
