Primary Purpose: Direct and manage instructional program and supervise operations and personnel at campus level. Provide leadership to ensure high standards of instructional service. Oversee compliance with district policies, success of instructional programs, and operation of all campus activities.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Master's degree from a recognized, accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas Standard Principal or Mid Management certification
  • Current certification in Texas Teachers Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) is required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Exemplifies instructional leadership, effective communication skills, personal integrity, collaborative leadership style and personal scholarship
  • Demonstrates ability to interpret data and address needs of school & community
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction; ability to evaluate an instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel and to coordinate campus functions
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Experience:
  • Minimum of three years experience as a classroom teacher
  • Minimum of two years experience in instructional leadership roles preferred
  • Minimum of three years experience in an administrative role; assistant principal experience strongly preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and School Management

  1. Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions.
  2. Work with district and campus staff to review the planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of the curriculum and instruction.
  3. Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
  4. Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
  5. Foster collegiality and team building among staff members; encourage their active involvement in decision-making processes.
  6. Provide for two-way communication with the Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent - Secondary, staff, students, parents, and community.
  7. Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance to staff and students. Recognize excellence and achievement.
  8. Facilitate effective and timely resolution of conflicts. Assume responsibility for all aspects of the overall school organization.
  9. Direct and supervise all campus programs, staff and facilities.
  10. Model exemplary leadership in the successful implementation of educational technologies across all curriculum areas.
School Improvement

  1. Build a common vision for school improvement with staff. Direct planning activities and put programs in place with staff to ensure attainment of the school's mission and of district plans.
  2. Identify, analyze, and apply research and data findings to promote school improvement.
  3. Develop and set annual campus improvement objectives using the Campus Improvement Plan process.
  4. Develop, maintain, and use information systems and records necessary to show campus progress on performance objectives addressing each Academic Excellence Indicator and areas addressed in the Campus Improvement Plan and district plans.
  5. Demonstrate a clear working knowledge of the Texas Accountability System. Ensure required reporting data is accurate and timely in all areas.
Personnel Management

  1. Interview, select, and orient new staff.
  2. Define expectations for staff performance.
  3. Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff.
  4. Make recommendations regarding personnel placement, transfer, retention, promotion, and dismissal.
  5. Confer with subordinates regarding their professional growth; work with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.
Fiscal, Administrative, and Facilities Management

  1. Comply with district policies, University Interscholastic League rules, and state and federal laws and regulations affecting schools.
  2. Develop campus budgets based on documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs. Maintain fiscal control and accurately report information.
  3. Oversee collection and maintenance of records to meet district, state, and federal guidelines.
  4. Manage the use of school facilities. Supervise maintenance of school facilities to ensure a clean, orderly and safe campus.
  5. Direct and manage any extracurricular and school activities including management of related funds.
  6. Demonstrate thorough understanding of school operations and ability to coordinate campus programs and activities.
Student Management

  1. Work with staff and students to develop a student management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
  2. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and the Student Handbook.
  3. Conduct or direct conferences regarding student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.

  1. Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
  2. Maintain appropriate certification and training.
  3. Demonstrate a high level of personal integrity, a collaborative leadership style and high ethical standards.
School or Community Relations

  1. Articulate the school's mission and any district plans to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  2. Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  3. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

Supervisory Responsibilities:


Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff assigned to campus including assistant principal(s), teacher(s), counselor(s), librarian(s), instructional aides, clerical support staff, and custodians.
