Pharmacy Technician III Student Pharmacist PRN-Central Operations, Casual Rotating

This is a casual status position regularly scheduled to work every other Saturday and Sunday OR six (6) weekend shifts within a six (6) week scheduling period outside of the initial training/orientation period. During an initial training period of one (1) to two (2) months, 160 hours are anticipated, with some shifts occurring during the week. Shifts: Rotating, with a combination of both day and evening shifts. Holiday Commitment: 1 winter & 1 summer holiday.

Responsibilities include preparing medication orders for inpatients, preparing prescriptions for outpatients, picking up orders and delivering medications to nursing units, scheduling intravenous admixture solutions according to the patient's medical record, answering the telephone according to hospital policy, screening the call to determine if the call should be handled by a pharmacist or a technician, entering new drug orders and renewal/refill information into the computerized patient medication profile, using the computer system to assist in all dispensing and inquiry functions, comparing the patient medication bin with the pharmacy and nursing record, receiving, preparing, and distributing floor stock requisitions and requisitions for other clinical locations, compounding dosage forms needed for dispensing to patients, assisting in maintaining adequate inventory levels in the dispensing areas, packaging extemporaneous and STAT single doses of medications under the supervision of a pharmacist, preparing sterile products for administration to patients, preparing cytotoxic agents for administration employing hospital and department aseptic and protective procedures, planning and performing the daily tasks required to provide department services under the direction of a pharmacist, preparing and delivering narcotics and narcotic admixtures, conducting narcotic perpetual inventories as directed, meeting quality and quantity requirements for new orders, unit doses, and IV admixtures, and ensuring compliance with hazardous waste collection and disposal procedures.

Quality management responsibilities include assisting in maintaining emergency carts, inventory, and controlled substances records. Accurate completion of responsibilities is essential to an efficient, error-free drug distribution system.

Qualifications

Required: High School Diploma, Illinois licensure - Pharmacy Technician Student License (IDFPR), currently enrolled in Pharmacy school and considered a Student Pharmacist. Preferred: Completion of a Technician Training Program, previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
