Project Engineer Sr - Mechanical / Piping

Job Summary Senior Project Engineer is the technical source of information for the project and must have a thorough knowledge of construction documents, subcontracts, and purchase orders. The role responds to questions about drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders, maintains professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers, and may assist with the supervision and training of Field Engineers. The position is structured in three steps (I, 11, Senior) and is intended for employees with more than six years of experience or experience on significantly larger or more complex projects. Key Responsibilities Demonstrate an understanding of the components of the project management plan (PMP), including scope, procurement, environmental, time, financial, quality, safety, and risk management plans, and maintain a thorough grasp of the change management process. Develop a procurement schedule, integrate it with the project CPM schedule, procure necessary materials and equipment, coordinate submittals with other trades, and review all submittals for compliance with contract documents. Understand the prime contract, subcontracts, purchase order agreements, allowance items, contract drawings, and specifications; administer aspects of budgeting and cost control to keep the project within the approved budget and demonstrate business acumen. Maintain as‑built contract documents and compile close‑out requirements, including operations and maintenance manuals, warranties, and other job‑specific items required by the specifications. Participate in concrete form design, equipment selection, and takeoffs for concrete, asphalt concrete, earthwork, and utilities as required. Plan, acquire, develop, and supervise project team members to ensure relentless execution of the project. Prepare and maintain quantity reporting mechanisms, coordinate agendas, and prepare minutes for all meetings while maintaining various project logs. Prepare and review change orders, including time extensions, before submission to the owner; maintain the change order log and, upon receipt of executed change orders, distribute documents to company and subcontractor field personnel; prepare cost control budget adjustments and execute them in a timely manner. Prevent and identify potential claims, quantify their impact, and mitigate or resolve the effects of claims in a timely manner. Minimum Job Requirements Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, and standards, and an in‑depth understanding of interdependence and relationships among functional units. Four‑year construction‑related degree or equivalent technical training and related experience, plus a minimum of three to four years of similar construction engineering experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and proven ability to manage a multidisciplinary team; ability to supervise and/or train Field Engineer positions if required. Physical Requirements Ability to wear personal protective equipment (steel‑toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard‑hat, vest, etc.). May reach above shoulder height and below the waist on a frequent basis. May stoop, kneel, or bend occasionally. May use telephone, computer, e‑mail, or other electronic devices to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors. Must comply with all safety standards and procedures. Occasionally climb stairs, ladders, etc. Use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects frequently. Interact with people frequently during a shift/workday. Lift, push, or pull objects up to 50 lbs on an occasional basis. Sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift/workday.
