Job Description: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Urology

Location: Riverhead, NY

Hours/Days: 5/8.5 hour shifts, Mon-Fri between 7:30am-6:00pm

In This Role, You Will:

Patient Care:

• Set up procedural spaces and sterilize instruments for urologic procedures.
• Assist physicians with exams and/or procedures.
• Record patient information such as vital signs, weight, and changes in medical history before each appointment.
• Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine screening tests.
• Record patient interview, history, and chief complaint.
• Provide patient education concerning medications, management of diseases, home treatments, and special diets.
• Escort patients to exam rooms.

Support & Coordination:

• Assist in maintaining the medical inventory and placing orders for new materials as needed.
• Assist in transitioning hard copy records to digital format.
• Manage physician inbox and prioritize tasks assigned via ONCO EMR.
• Work in the front office taking care of tasks such as answering phone calls and greeting patients as they enter the facility.

Patient Interaction:

• Ensure patients are prepared for exams and procedures.
• Provide support with patient education on treatment plans and disease management.
• Create a welcoming atmosphere for patients and assist them with any inquiries.

Clinical Support:

• Assist physicians with exams and procedures.
• Clean and prepare examination rooms prior to patient appointments.
• Perform basic lab tests and assist with phlebotomy and the collection of other lab specimens.

Medication Administration:

• Prepare and administer injections.
• Administer and document medications under a physician’s order, following the five (5) medication rights to reduce the potential for medical errors.

We Require:

• Current NYS LPN license required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• IV Competency required.
• Consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other health care professionals.
• Experience with EMR’s.
• Reliable transportation to any of NYH locations for patient care needs.
