Welcome to GEN Brooklyn!

Located in the heart of Prospect Heights, GEN has been part of the Brooklyn community since 2004.

Today, we are entering an exciting new chapter as we evolve into GEN Japanese Izakaya —bringing together the warmth, energy, and accessibility of a neighborhood izakaya with a serious commitment to Japanese food, sake, and genuine hospitality.

Our atmosphere may be relaxed and approachable. Our standards are not.

We are refining every part of the guest experience—from our evolving food and beverage program to the way we welcome, communicate with, and care for each person who walks through our doors.

At the heart of this next chapter is OMOTENASHI —the Japanese spirit of thoughtful hospitality and genuinely caring for the person in front of you.

For us, OMOTENASHI is not about following a script or being overly formal. It is about noticing —reading the table, anticipating what a guest may need, understanding when to engage and when to give space, supporting your teammates, and paying attention to the small details that make someone feel genuinely cared for.

We believe great hospitality should feel natural, personal, and effortless to the guest—even when a great deal of thought and teamwork is happening behind the scenes.

We are seeking a Server who shares that mindset.

You do not need to know everything about Japanese cuisine or sake on your first day. But you should be curious, willing to learn, and excited to develop your knowledge so you can confidently share the experience with our guests.

More than simply taking orders and delivering food, we are looking for someone who wants to become part of a team, develop their craft, and help shape what hospitality at GEN can become.

• Competitive Pay: $11.35/hour + tips

• Consistent Schedule: Approximately 3–5 days per week

• Opportunity to Learn: Ongoing education in Japanese food, sake, spirits, and hospitality

• Serving Experience: Previous restaurant or front-of-house experience is strongly preferred

• Professionalism: Able to work with urgency while remaining calm, organized, and welcoming in a busy dining room

• Attention to Detail: High standards for cleanliness, table presentation, organization, timing, and the small details that shape the guest experience
