Description RN needed for the Full Time Flex Team. The UNC Hospitals Flex Team is seeking valuable team members to join our nurses floating to a variety of areas including: Women’s Health, Pediatrics, ICU, Stepdown, Acute Care, ED and Psychiatry. We welcome an energetic, flexible, patient‑driven, and effective communicator. Candidates must possess considerable nursing knowledge, adapt to change, be highly flexible, and maintain a safe patient/family centered environment. Work assignments will be matched to experience, and precepting is individualized based on skill set and experience level. Staff work across the main hospital and also have the opportunity to work in Hillsborough Hospital. Preference will be given to applicants with 18 months of recent hospital experience. Summary Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Education – Participate in identifying and meeting one’s own learning needs, attend education programs, use patient education materials relevant to the patient population, assess readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers, and assess developmental level of patient and factors affecting ability to learn. Evaluation of Care – Identify expected patient outcomes, seek guidance as needed in revising care plans, participate in interdisciplinary discussion on patient care evaluation, and communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation – Demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems, perform bedside point-of-care testing, utilize organizational and nursing standards, policies and procedures, prioritize care, and consult appropriate resources timely for complex care issues, teaching needs, or high-risk discharge planning. Leadership – Develop professional growth goals, achieve them within identified time frames or renegotiate, be aware of activities that facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration, participate in unit goal development and improvement activities, utilize communication systems effectively, promote cost-effective care, give feedback to colleagues, and maintain a safe, clean and secure environment. Patient Assessment – Recognize data from complex situations, assess and anticipate discharge needs, develop relationships with families to support advocacy. Planning – Collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care, use multidisciplinary resources, communicate adequately, address cultural or ethnic issues, and prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems. Research – Read relevant journals, bring ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability. Qualifications Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Nursing (or a Master’s degree majoring in Nursing) within seven years of employment date. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. At least one (1) year of nursing experience.
