Hardware Operations Technician

As part of the Geo Data Operations (GDO) team, the Hardware Operations group is responsible for building, testing, deploying, and maintaining the imagery hardware and sensors deployed across a variety of platforms and vehicles worldwide.

We are looking for a hands-on, technically skilled Hardware Operations Technician to join this team and help keep Street View's fleet of proprietary systems running at the highest level.

What You'll Do

• Assemble and disassemble proprietary systems both in-house and in the field on vehicles and other platforms
• Troubleshoot and replace various computer, camera, and PCB components
• Perform refurbishment and repair of all hardware parts per established guidelines
• Prototype and test advanced equipment including high-resolution cameras, mechanical frames, cables, and geolocation systems
• Provide remote support for the Street View vehicle fleet, walking operators through system function tests and collecting relevant data via phone or video conference
• Support engineering teams with test and data collection projects
• Train technicians on new camera systems as they roll into operations
• Manage warehouse inventory and hardware logistics

What You'll Need

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent (B.E. / B.Tech preferred)

Experience

• 23 years of relevant work experience; 3+ years of domain experience preferred

Tools & Technical Skills

• Expert knowledge of hand tools, light power tools, and measuring tools and techniques
• Familiarity with types and applications of hardware and electronics
• Basic to moderate automotive repair skills (moderate to advanced preferred)
• Understanding of wiring diagrams (preferred)
• Electronics repair experience (preferred)
• Basic knowledge of Linux (preferred)
• Working knowledge of ticketing systems, Gmail, and Google Calendar
• Basic spreadsheet skills (Google Sheets preferred)

Core Competencies

• Strong hardware troubleshooting, installation, and warehouse management skills
• Familiarity with vehicle parts, computer components, camera parts, and PCBs
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interface effectively at all levels of the organization
• Strong problem-solving ability with keen attention to detail
• Self-motivated and proactive, with a passion for learning and creative problem-solving
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Other Requirements

• Ability to travel, often on short notice
• Valid passport, or ability to obtain one within 6 months
• Clean driving record (MVR) and ability to operate motor vehicles

Compensation

Hourly Rate: $28.00 $31.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
