Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Clinical Practice, UW Pediatrics, Rheumatology Division Position Overview School / Campus / College: School of Medicine Organization: Pediatrics, Rheumatology Title: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Clinical Practice, UW Pediatrics, Rheumatology Division Position Details Position Description The Division of Rheumatology, in the Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Washington, invites applications for a Clinical Practice faculty position at the rank of of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or full Professor of Clinical Practice. Specific rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as generally described in UW’s Faculty Code Section 24-34. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a twelve-month full-time basis for a term of 3 years beginning in July 2026. The initial appointment period will be 3 years, at a minimum, with eligibility for renewal thereafter. Faculty on the clinical practice track hold multi‑year appointments that align with a 12‑month service period (July 1‑June 30). Faculty with 12‑month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July‑June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Clinical Practice track appointments are not eligible for tenure. The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice range: $12,079 - $18,119 per month ($144,948 - $217,428 annually), Associate Professor of Clinical Practice range: $18,246 - $21,896 per month ($218,962 - $262,754 annually), Professor of Clinical Practice range: $17,844 - $26,766 per month ($214,128 - $321,192 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children’s University Medical Group practice plan. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in pediatric rheumatology clinical care in the outpatient, inpatient, and outreach settings, as well as immunosuppressive medication management and intraarticular aspirations/injections. The successful candidate will spend 30% time in the clinical setting, 10% time in administrative and scholarly pursuit including teaching and mentoring, and 60% time in a physician informaticist (PI) role. Clinical effort may be reduced, commensurate with grant funding. As a physician informaticist (PI), the faculty member wll drive the enhancement of clinical information systems, with a core focus on initiatives that enhance patient outcome and experience, boost clinician well‑being, improve operational efficiency, and elevate the quality and safety of patient care. In the PI role, the candidate will collaborate across a broad spectrum of departments—from providers and other clinical staff, to IT and administrative teams to identify and prioritize informatics projects. In the PI role, the faculty will report to the Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO) with respect to IT responsibilities. As PI, they will lead the design, planning, and implementation of enhancements for clinical information systems that improve provision of patient care. This includes initiatives related, but not limited, to: order entry; clinical documentation; medical records; clinical decision support; patient and family access to information; clinical databases; patient scheduling systems; artificial intelligence; and digital health. Additional PI functions include collaboration with IT Enterprise Clinical Applications teams to identify user technology and EHR needs, design and implement enhancements and changes, and promote widespread acceptance and utilization of clinical information systems. Participation in training design and delivery in collaboration with the IT Clinical and Business Applications Training team. The PI role is to communicate regularly with clinicians and division leaders about informatics initiatives and provide a forum for feedback and concerns about clinical information systems or workflows. Candidates will be considered across a range of interests in informatics training and clinical informatics board certification, experience with Epic Systems EHR, experience as Associate Chief Medical Information Officer or equivalent role, demonstrated knowledge of continuous improvement and informatics principles, demonstrated knowledge of evidenced‑based medical principles, published informatics‑related articles in peer reviewed journals, experience with vetting and/or implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in healthcare, and experience with clinical systems and process re‑design with direct responsibility for successful system implementation. The successful candidate will ideally manage, engage, develop and direct staff, and show demonstrated leadership experience as a team member in a complex setting. As the second largest Department in the UW School of Medicine, Pediatrics has twenty‑one clinical divisions with approximately 1,400 academic appointments, including approximately 650 paid faculty members, 134 residents, 70 ACGME fellows, 230 staff employees and over 600 volunteer/affiliate faculty and continues to grow each year. The Department of Pediatrics is a close affiliate of Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Children’s Research Institute (SCRI). Faculty members appointed in the Department are located at various institutions (including Seattle Children’s, UW Medicine, and FHCRC), and are part of the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) clinical practice plan. The Division of Rheumatology, at Seattle Children’s Hospital and Research Institute and the University of Washington, is world‑renowned as one of the oldest programs in the world, and a large prgram in the United States–with 13 physicians and 4 nurses that serve the states of Washington, Alaska, and Idaho. Our diverse population of patients come primarily from these states, and represents a wide range of ethnicities and backgrounds as well as unique and rare diseases. The Division has an active research program at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Research Institute with a focus on autoimmune diseases and collaborates closely with Seattle Children’s Therapeutics, the Benaroya Research Institute, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and the Seattle area biotech industry. In addition to investigator‑initiated studies, the division is actively involved in the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) projects, is a member of Pediatric Rheumatology Collaborative Research Group (PRCSG) and participates in pharmaceutical clinical trials. Seattle Children’s serves as the Coordinating Center for the Pediatric Rheumatology Care and Outcomes Improvement Network (PR-COIN). The division has an outstanding fellowship training program which has been supported by an NIH T32 for decades. Qualifications Applicants for this clinical practice faculty position must meet the following minimum qualifications: Requires an MD, DO, or MD/DO combined (or foreign equivalent) Must be board‑certified in Pediatric Rheumatology. Must be currently licensed as a physician or eligible for licensure as a physician in Washington state. Must be eligible to be credentialed to practice at Seattle Children’s Hospital. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non‑U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
