Automation Engineer

As an Automation Engineer, a typical day might include the following:Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of electric power system automation and industrial control systems including related protocols, serial and network communications, security, and logic programming.Assist in customer technical support including installation, commissioning and operation of automation and control systems.Develop and analyze product specifications and functional and validation tests.Write and maintain product documentation including application guides, data sheets, and instruction manuals.Provide technical and market analyses to evaluate proposed products or enhancements.Perform analysis and tests on competing automation products.Perform as technical lead on assigned projects.Mentor Associate Engineers and Technicians.Understand. Create. Simplify.Other duties as assigned.This job might be for you if you have:B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experienceTypically 2+ years relevant experience in setup, configuration, and troubleshooting of automation and control systems with a broad range of serial and network devices and interfaces.Working knowledge of automation and integration applications, practices, and philosophies at an electrical utility, industrial plant, or engineering firmKnowledge of OSI modelKnowledge of layer 2 and 3 (switching and routing) networking principlesExcellent technical presentation and training skillsWilling to travel up to 15%Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skillsAbility to learn new skills and assume new responsibilitiesAbility to work cooperatively in a team environmentPreferred QualificationsWorking knowledge of SEL productsWorking knowledge of SEL, DNP3, Modbus, IEC 60870, and IEC 61850 protocolsWorking knowledge of electric power systems and protective relay applicationsExperience in customer service or technical supportLocation: Boise, IDCompetitive pay. We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the pay range may differ if filled at a different level. Our pay ranges are determined by job and responsibility.
