Job Description

The Radiation Therapist shall perform all aspects of radiation therapy delivery and assist in administrative functions within the Radiation Oncology Clinic, as needed. Accountable to the Chief of Radiation Oncology.

The performance of health care services by contract workers under a personal services arrangement are subject to day-to-day supervision and control by health care facility personnel comparable to that exercised over military and civil service health care personnel engaged in comparable health care services. Contract workers under a personal services arrangement requiring licensure may maintain a license in any U.S. jurisdiction

Work Schedule and Duty Hours: Routine work schedules will be Monday through Friday between 0700 hrs and 1700 hrs according to established individual schedules based on the department needs not to exceed 8 hours/day excluding a 1 hour lunch.

Duty hours may commence at 0600 and extend to 1800, Monday through Friday, when required based on patient need. Any changes to the work schedule must be approved by the Chief of Radiation Oncology. Contractor personnel shall be in the clinic and available for work during the hours specified in their respective work schedules.

Radiation Therapist (x3) - M-F 0700-1700

Recognized Holidays: Contract workers will not be required to work on federally recognized holidays.

Planned Closures: Other than the recognized holidays identified in paragraph 1.5.6 of this TO PWS, the following are known non-duty days (family or training days) where the contract workers will not be able to perform their duties, even in a telework environment, and the Contractor cannot bill for services: N/A

Unplanned Closures: During unplanned (unknown) closures due to no fault of the Contractor (e.g., natural disaster, military emergency, severe weather, pandemic, or Government decision to close the facility outside of a planned closure), the contract worker will be compensated only for the actual hours the contract worker was scheduled and planned to work, if planned leave is on the FTE's schedule it will not be compensated.

Emergency Essential Services: Contract worker positions are not considered emergency/mission essential in an emergency services status.

Telework Arrangements: Contract workers will not be capable of providing services in a teleworking environment.

Recording Contract Worker Time: Follow procedures listed in base contract PWS 1.5.36 or follow these changes to the recording of contract worker time identified in the base contract PWS are as follows: Contractor staff shall be required to log in time worked in both the Defense Medical Human Resource System (DMHRSi) as well as any locally established duty tracking system directed by the duty section.

Contract Worker Planned Absences:

Personal Services Arrangement: The notification policy for planned absences requires contract workers under a personal services arrangement to notify the Government Supervisor 30 days prior to the absence in accordance with the place of performance policy.

Occupational Health: The contract worker shall be required to obtain documentation of required physical testing or a report of a physical examination.

Tuberculosis Screening: The Contractor ensure contract workers shall be screened for tuberculosis (TB).

Health Requirements. The Contractor shall or provide documentation certifying health requirements such as immunizations, annual vaccinations, and physical examination when required at the time of initial placement. Annual Influenza Vaccine is required

Training: Contract workers shall complete all agency-specified training requirements and comply with all policies and procedures applicable to the place of performance. Refer to MTF and DHA policies for required training.

Dress and Appearance: Contract workers shall maintain good personal hygiene and present a well-groomed and professional appearance IAW the policy at the place of performance. If required, the following uniform (e.g., smocks, EMT/Paramedic uniform) is mandatory: Scrubs

Minimum Requirements:

• Legal Authorization to Work in the United States: The contract worker performing under this contract must be a U.S. Citizen
• Education:
• Degree/Education: Radiographic Technologist (RADIATION THERAPIST) shall be a graduate from a Joint Review committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited radiation therapist training program and have a current certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
• Equivalency Determination Request: The Contractor may request an equivalency determination as a substitute for education requirements on this labor category.
• Certifications Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) in the specialty identified in the TO.
• BLS- Contract workers shall maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, or the American Red Cross. Certification cards must display the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross or other approved certifying body emblem. Web-based (on-line) classes are not acceptable by the Government.
• Board Certification: shall be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Radiation Therapy Technology e.g. 'R.T. (T) (ARRT)'.
• Licensure: Possess and Maintain current Mississippi Licensure as a Radiology Technician/Technologist
• Venipuncture: Ability to perform or obtain training in IV placement/removal for CT simulation contrast

Standard Qualifications:

Contractor personnel shall ensure all radiation therapy procedures are performed IAW established protocols and only upon the order of a person lawfully authorized to prescribe radiation therapy. Confer with Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist (Radiation Oncology Physicist) to establish requirements of nonstandard treatment and determine factors, such as positioning and blocking to satisfy those requirements. Contractor personnel shall refer any ambiguous procedures or requisitions to the Chief of Radiation Oncology and Medical Physicist (Radiation Oncology Physicist).

Core Duties:

Perform routine diagnostic radiological procedures/services as appropriate

Adhere to radiation safety policies and procedures in accordance with Radiology Department policies and procedures.

Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading according to MTF protocol.

Correctly position the patient for the examination and make technical adjustments necessary for the required examination. Determine if any special patient preparation is required.

Process digital images and submit for interpretation by radiologists.

Document all procedures and maintain records in accordance with MTF policy.

As directed, perform system calibrations and quality control tasks according to the manufacturer and MTF policy. Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated Government personnel of outlying values.

Initiate repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions by notifying designated Government personnel.

Report problems to the Biomedical Repair Section and record the problem condition in the trouble call log book.

Observe and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have direct bearing on the patient's condition as a result of adverse reaction to contrast media and inform the radiologist of any condition requiring his/her attention.

Recognize the need for and institute the necessary emergency measures for situations where a person requires resuscitation procedures due to cardiac or respiratory arrest.

Perform IV insertion and administer contrast for CT simulation

Duties:

• Assemble and review patient information in preparation for simulation.
• Document information, create patient charts, and coordinate treatment time with other staff.
• Check prescriptions, diagnosis, charts, and patient identification. Secure x-ray, lab reports, and patient coding/billing information as needed..
• Provide a supportive and caring environment for patients undergoing radiation treatment, showing empathy to patient and family, and representing the department with a pleasant, professional behavior.
• Explain procedure, means of communication during treatment, and procedures to follow if emergency arises during treatment to patient.
• Respect the patient's right to refuse treatment. If the patient does not want the procedure performed, the patient's wish shall be respected, and the incident shall be brought to the attention of the respective Radiation Oncologist.
• Receive patients, explain treatment procedures, position patients, obtain patient contours, and confer with the Radiation Oncologist and Dosimetrist regarding the volumes to be treated.
• Simulate treatment, mark patient's skin, and prepare specialized, tailor-made accessories; such as bolus, blocks, immobilization devices, and compensating filters.
