Summary Direct‑Hire Supervisory Wildland Firefighter position with the U.S. Wildland Fire Service (GW‑0456‑8/9) based in Whiteriver, Arizona. Veterans preference does not apply to this advertisement. Major Duties Direct a fuels management program. Provide short‑ and long‑range planning, budgeting, and management of wildland fire, fuels management, and prescribed fire programs. Ensure the smoke management program complies with state air quality standards and coordinate with federal, state, tribal, and local air quality officials. Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team (forestry, wildlife biology, range management, geology, archaeology, etc.) to develop and implement fire management plans, land‑management plans, compliance documents, and agreements. Plan and conduct surveys to evaluate data for developing fuels treatment prescriptions and wildland fire monitoring. Coordinate and implement the technical and administrative aspects of the prescribed fire/fuels plan, ensuring that preparation, ignition, holding, mop‑up, and rehabilitation meet specified standards and regulations. Conduct fuels management surveys to document presence, amount, and types of hazardous fuels; use this information to prioritize prescribed fire and fuels‑management projects. Education Proof of education must be provided. Applicants using education or a combination of education and experience must submit official or unofficial transcripts that include grades, credit hours earned, major(s), GPA or class ranking, institution name, and student name. If required coursework is not easily recognizable or a portion of a course may be credited, a memorandum on letterhead from the registrar, dean, or other appropriate official must state which portion should be considered. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for evaluation, but official transcripts must be provided upon selection. Requirements Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Suitability for federal employment is determined by background investigation. Direct deposit is required. Form BIA‑4432, Verification of Indian Preference for Employment, is required if claiming Indian preference. Applicants must submit to a drug test and receive a negative result prior to appointment; the position is subject to random drug testing. A pre‑employment medical examination and, if applicable, post‑employment medical examinations are required to maintain fitness standards. A work capacity test for arduous positions must be passed. The incumbent must operate a government or private motor vehicle as part of official duties and maintain a valid state driver’s license. Official U.S. Wildland Fire Service uniform is required. A one‑year probationary period is required for those who have not previously completed a supervisory probationary period. Individuals assigned male at birth after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for the Selective Service. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and meet maximum age requirements. The position may require on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, shift work, and up to 50% travel; a government charge card will be required for travel. Evaluations Resumes must not exceed two single‑sided pages; longer resumes will not be accepted. Minimum font size is 10‑point for all body text. Resumes must preserve 0.5‑inch margins on all sides. Resumes are evaluated against minimum qualification requirements; incomplete or unsubstantiated resumes result in an “ineligible” rating. Resumes must reflect the minimum qualification requirements for the position.
