ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN III

Position Overview The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to perform plan reviews of architectural, MEP, and fire/life safety systems to evaluate specifications that are non‑routine and require a variety of guides, references and precedents for health care facilities for which the Department has responsibility for licensure, inspection, and certification. Salary Anticipated starting salary: $5,572 monthly (effective 07/01/26). Full range: $5,572–$7,898 monthly. Receive, review, approve or disapprove and/or comment upon health care drawings, specifications and change orders in accordance with laws, regulations and codes for physical plant and MEP systems. Complete required inspection forms in office or on site, inform health care facilities of deficiencies, evaluate and approve proposed methods for correcting deficiencies. Investigate on‑site incidents/complaints for life/fire safety code and MEP systems conformance with applicable State and Federal codes. Research new products and their impact on existing design and construction standards. Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Completion of two (2) years of college coursework in Engineering. Three (3) years of technical experience in Engineering. Conditions of Employment Ability to travel. Valid driver's license. Physical ability to climb stairs and ladders, and inspect physical environments and life safety systems, including construction sites. Completion of the Life Safety Code Surveyor certification program within 24 months of hire. Familiarity with revolving door restrictions under 5 ILCS 430/5‑45. Filing of Statement of Economic Interest and Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest required.
