Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Nursing

Saint Martin's University

Assistant Professor of Nursing

Saint Martin's University, a private Catholic, Benedictine university located in Western Washington is expanding its BSN nursing program and invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Nursing position to begin in August 2026.

The Nursing program has undergone significant growth in the past three years, adding a traditional BSN and an LPN to BSN program to established RN to BSN program. The Department of Nursing moved into the 12,000 square foot Bruno and Evelyn Betti Nursing Education Center with new state-of-the art learning labs, classroom and faculty offices in Summer 2020 to accommodate the growth.

Saint Martin's is extremely proud of our student diversity. Our university treasures persons of all abilities, ages, ethnicities, genders, nationalities, orientations, races, and religions. We know that students educated in ethnically diverse settings perform better academically and reap greater professional success than their peers from more homogeneous learning environments. We proudly celebrate that our student population is 51% undergraduate and 32% graduate students of color. We are committed to pursuing an employee community which reflects a similar, if not the same percentage.

Faculty Responsibilities

The candidate will be expected to teach courses across multiple program tracks, including pre-licensure BSN, LPN-to-BSN, and RN-to-BSN students. Candidates with expertise in acute care, population health, pediatric or chronic disease nursing are encouraged to apply. Teaching of didactic, clinical, and learning labs will be expected depending on faculty expertise. Simulation education experience or willingness to gain simulation training is preferred.

Saint Martin's University strongly values diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), especially as it guides the work of teaching and learning. The university is focused on faculty that can promote equity-focused teaching, mentoring, and community across the university. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the University's goals in these areas. Contributions might include working on school-community events, mentoring students, building equity-focused partnerships with others across the university, and supporting student communities centered on BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ students.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have an earned PhD in Nursing, a Doctor of Nursing Practice or EdD with a Nursing Education focus by hire date, and licensed or eligible for an RN license in Washington State.

Saint Martin's University established in 1895, is the educational mission of Saint Martin's Abbey, a Catholic Benedictine monastery, whose members pray, work, and live together on the University campus. The physical beauty of Saint Martin's 300-acre campus reflects the rich intellectual and spiritual nature of its presence in the Pacific Northwest.

Essential features of University life are animated by its Benedictine identity and its participation in the centuries-old traditions of Catholic intellectual thought and the search for truth.

Thus, the University honors students and guides them towards achieving academic excellence. Superior teaching is the expected norm. Rooted in the long tradition of the liberal arts, the University curriculum cultivates creativity and the ability to communicate and pursue ideas; critical thinking and independent inquiry; academic proficiency; the formation of sound ethical judgments; and service to humanity.

Reflecting the Benedictine virtue of hospitality, the University welcomes and, indeed, seeks students and employees not only from the Pacific Northwest, but also from other parts of the nation and the world at its main and extension campuses. Saint Martin's treasures persons of all ages, religions, and nationalities as it encourages cognizance of diverse viewpoints and an appreciation of all cultures.

Therefore, we intentionally encourage and request that members of historically underrepresented groups apply to join this community. All of us, from all backgrounds, are making a commitment to do and be better for our students, faculty, and staff.

Candidates must have valid documentation permitting them to work in the US from the date on which the appointment at Saint Martin's takes effect.

To apply, please submit: a cover letter that includes (a) relevant qualifications, and (b) research and teaching interests, curriculum vitae, unofficial or official copies of graduate transcript(s), a statement of teaching philosophy, and 3 letters of recommendation in your application. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
