Overview Join to apply for the Alternative Ed role at Hillsborough County Public Schools. The Secondary Teacher (grades 6-12) is responsible for the instruction of designated content area(s)/course(s) in a classroom setting within a secondary school. Responsibilities Designs and implements appropriate instruction of content area(s)/course(s) assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs. Creates a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport. Creates and delivers relevant and rigorous lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement. Utilizes a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds to meet the individual needs of students. Observes and evaluates student performance and mastery of standards, monitors assessment data, and maintains student grades and attendance. Manages student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies and applying disciplinary procedures as needed. Communicates with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourages parental involvement. Ensures health and safety of students and protection of equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintains and secures confidential records, inquiries, and data appropriately. Maintains appropriate certifications and engages in professional development as required. Performs any other duties as assigned; understands that responsibilities may change according to the needs of the district. Job knowledge: competent in required job skills and knowledge; ability to learn and apply new skills; stays current with developments and requires minimal supervision. Project management: develops plans, coordinates projects, and completes them on time and within budget. Planning and organizing: prioritizes, plans work activities, and uses time efficiently. Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Florida Professional Educator Certificate preferred; eligibility for Florida Temporary Certificate required. Physical Demands : Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing. Lifting up to 10 pounds. Reaching with both hands; overhead. Noise: moderate.
