Quality Control Technician

The Quality Control Technician plays a critical role in ensuring product quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction by performing inspections, validating conformance to engineering and customer requirements, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the organization. This position is responsible for incoming, in-process, and final inspections; quality documentation and traceability; nonconformance management; and maintaining compliance with internal quality systems and ISO standards. The role partners closely with Production, Engineering, Purchasing, and other cross-functional teams to resolve quality-related issues, support corrective actions, and ensure products consistently meet Swagelok's premium quality expectations. The Quality Control Technician also contributes to document control, FAIR submissions, customer quality requirements, and continuous improvement efforts while promoting accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence. Successful individuals in this role demonstrate strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, disciplined problem-solving skills, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and inspection requirements. As proficiency increases, the position expands in scope to include advanced inspection activities, audit participation, mentoring, process improvement leadership, and broader ownership of quality system initiatives. This position follows an on-site work schedule, with regular on-site attendance required Monday through Friday. Based on business and operational needs, the position may require overtime, schedule adjustments, or occasional shift variations.

Key Responsibilities

Inspection & Product Verification

• Independently perform incoming, in-process and final inspections with minimal supervision while ensuring consistent adherence to quality standards and customer requirements.
• Utilize measurement tools and gauges such as calipers, micrometers, and inspection fixtures to validate product specifications and tolerances.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, inspection criteria, and material certifications to validate product quality requirements.
• Verify calibration status of inspection and measurement equipment prior to use.

Quality Documentation & Compliance

• Complete and maintain accurate inspection records, FAIR submissions, nonconformance documentation, and traceability records in accordance with company and customer requirements.
• Ensure outgoing products comply with customer specifications, quality standards, and material certification requirements.
• Apply ISO 9001 standards, internal quality procedures, and document control requirements consistently in daily operations.
• Support internal audits, compliance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives related to the quality management system.

Nonconformance Management & Problem Solving

• Investigate nonconforming conditions and support root cause analysis, corrective action, and preventive action activities using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D and 5 Why.
• Participate in MRB, RMA, and NCMR processes to ensure timely resolution of quality-related issues.
• Partner with Production, Engineering, Purchasing, and other departments to resolve quality-related issues and implement corrective actions.
• Identify recurring quality issues and contribute to process improvement recommendations.

Systems, Reporting & Operational Support

• Utilize Microsoft Office applications and quality-related systems, including SAP B1, QT9, FAIR software, or similar systems, to maintain records and support reporting activities.
• Independently prioritize inspection activities to support operational timelines and customer commitments.
• Communicate inspection findings, quality concerns, and escalation risks clearly and professionally to cross-functional stakeholders.
• Support training and knowledge-sharing activities related to inspection procedures, quality standards, and documentation practices.
• Train, support, and mentor associates in the application of the Swagelok Quality System, ISO compliance requirements, and continuous improvement methodologies.

• Mechanical & Technical Interpretation . Reads and interprets engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection criteria to verify product conformance.

Education & Work Experience

• Required:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 2 years of experience in quality-related role
• Experience with precision measuring tools
• Engineering drawing experience
• Preferred:
• Associate degree in Engineering
• ISO 9001 Certification
• 5 years of experience in quality-related role
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing practices
